Trying to clone HDD to SSD and excluding files
I've got my OS HDD with more than 1.5 TB filled. I'm trying to clone it to a 250 GB SSD and excluding the excess data. Cutting it down to just the OS and essential programs, it shouldn't be larger than 150 GB. Yet when I exclude the extra folders in Acronis True Image WD edition 2013, it shows no free space on the SSD, and the entirety of the SSD filled.
Continuing on after the Exclude process, after about an hour of waiting, it gives me this error message
"Failed to move the selected data. Make sure that your new hard drive is not smaller than your old one and that your partitions do not contain errors. You can check for errors and correct them using a special utility."
I don't know what to do from here at all. I haven't checked the disc for errors yet, but a check on command line says my drive isn't dirty. As well, Acronis is apparently showing a the discrepancy in the SSD size and the selected files to be cloned size before I actually get this error message.
EDIT: This is from a WD drive to a Samsung drive. The Acronis is WD edition. I just read somewhere that this only supports To and From WD drives. Is this the problem?

Not sure where you read about the software only supporting WD drives but you just might have something there. Maybe someone else will chime in on this one.

You have to have at least one WD drive for the WD edition to work. If you are trying to clone you cannot exclude anything. Cloning copies the entire disk as is. You may want to try a full disk backup instead.

Yet the option to exclude exists, and it takes a significant amount of time processing to do so.
(Note, this is all for posterity now, as I've already moved my files off-disk and cloned already)

It is possible to exclude data from a clone. My suspicion is that the application simply could not exclude the vast amount of data that you where trying to leave out. This is probably attributable to insufficient disk space on the drives you were working with.

There is a defect in the regular version of TIH 2013, such that the introductory information embedded in the image does not reflect that exclusions have been made.
(Size on the media and reported in the recovery loader reflect the reduced size of total data, but the loader does not in deciding if target has enough space.)
My experience is with restoring an image to a different drive, to test the image which is essential, I was using an older drive as target and excluding my user data as my mission was to avoid reloading software if the active drive failed.
However error indications are different than your case.
I have not yet checked Release Notes for 2014 and 2015 to see if fixed, Acronis non-support were not responsive re 2014.
