Disk clone

Thread needs solution

I need to upgrade the disk on my PC from the current 256GB to something bigger. The PC manufacturer assures me that I do not need to upgrade my BIOS nor do I need to upgrade my mother board nor anything else. Can I buy a larger drive, clone my existing drive using Acronis True Image 2014, physically install the new, larger disk and expect it to work properly?

Yes, you should be able to Clone to a larger-sized HDD.

I've been Cloning with Acronis TI 2011 for 3 years with almost no issues (had 1 issue in 3 years). I've Cloned once from a smaller 500Gb HDD to a larger 1 Tb HDD once without issue.

I'm not familiar with the 2014 version but it should be the same as the 2011 version regarding Cloning. It's recommended to Clone by booting the PC up with your Acronis CD/media instead of Cloning from within Windows.

Be sure and disconnect the Source HDD after the Cloning process is complete before booting up into Windows on the new HDD to avoid Windows Disk conflict issues.
