XP no shut down

Thread needs solution

Since a few days, I have the following malfunction (no apparent reason):
After selecting "shut down" ("Ausschalten"), XP starts Acronis, shows input Acronis-box ("do you want to start backup?) and continues the shut down procedure.
This procedure is stopped, however, and the windows "XP is beeing switched off" remains without turning the power off.
after removing power, restart and activating Acronis, the status shows "red" and says "mit fehlern abgeschlossen" (terminated with errors").
Any idea what can be done?

Hello Peter,

Let me help you with the issue.

Most likely, you have a backup task scheduled to run on PC shutdown. Please check your tasks and remove the necessary one.

If you can't find delete the task automatically, please delete all tasks manually the following way:

  1. Download Acronis Scheduler, which is a special utility to update the scheduler service;
  2. Extract the downloaded file and run install.bat. The utility will automatically update the service;
  3. Reboot the machine;
  4. Recreate the scheduled tasks.

Please reply to this thread if the issue still persists, I'll be glad to assist you further.

Thank you.

Hi Ilya,
tnx for yr help.
I followed yr instructions and got the acronis backup tasks fixed.
2 of them do a daily incremental backup during shutdown process on data and mails, and they did well this way for a year or two, the error described above happens only since a few days/weeks.
now having fixed the acronis backup tasks, I was able to run them successfully, having them started manually. after this I tried to shut down XP, with the same problem as before: shut down starts, beeps, saves "einstellungen" (settings), but stops with the message "windows is beeing shut down" on a dark blue/light blue screen, without switching the PC off.
any idea what I could do?

The entire #6013 thread makes for interesting reading.

Tnx, GroverH, unfortunately this batch file does not motivate my PC to give up...

this is an addendum to my error description of 2010-03-15:
I just realized, that XP fails with the 1st attempt to shut ddown, issuing the message that Acronis does not react. After terminating Acronis ("jetzt beenden?") shut down continues regularily, until the screen shows "Windows shutting down" as described in my last post. HD activities are finished at thi point of time, by the way. when switching off the PC on the hard way (mains off) and switching on again, Acronis remains in the status GREEN.So it seems to me, that some sort of Acronis routine is not being terminated during shut down.
Any idea?

Hi Ilya,
coming back to yr answer- unfortunately, the prob persists.
I have run some additional experiments with the following results:
XP fails totally with the 1st attempt to close, issuing the message that Acronis does not react. After forced termination of Acronis ("do you really want...?..data loss" etc) shut down continues regularily, until the screen shows "Windows shutting down" as described in my last post. HD activities are finished at this point of time, by the way. when switching off the PC on the hard way using the power-button (not the mains switch) and switching on again, Acronis remains in the status GREEN.So it cannot be a HW-prob, as the power button is SW-controlled.
It seems to me, that some sort of Acronis routine is not running properly during shut down.
Any idea?
