Nonstop backup problems

Thread needs solution

Build 6525. Windows 7 x64. I set up the nonstop backup - i specified one folder on my hard-drive and chose an external USB drive as the backup destination. When i go to try & recover a file I have nothing but disappointment. The file i am trying to recover is auto-saved in its native application every 5 minutes - so there should be lots of backups available. First disappointment - when i go through the recovery process i cannot see an option to filter the specific kind of file i am looking for. Second disappointment, it does not remember the widths i choose for the information columns - so each & every time i go through the recovery process i have to waste time organising the view so i can actually see what i am looking for. Third disappointment, when i click on the Backup version options (top right of the window - the tabs for day & time) the tab on the far right is not wide enough so you cannot even read the text for a lot of the entries. For example if i want to look at a backup from yesterday i cannot see a specific time - all i can see is "Yesterday at 9:....". Fourth disappointment - i was working on a file most of yesterday - so there should be many options for recovering it (it gets saved every 5 minutes by Sketchup) - however, when I look at the recover options there is only one entry for yesterday. When i look at the options, there is only one file available from yesterday to choose from - and it is completely useless because it is at 2:45pm. I need a copy from several hours after that time. Fifth disappointment - sometimes the recovery process works and other times it does not - by that i mean no files appear in the location where they were supposed to have been recovered to. (I am attempting to recover the files to an internal hard drive) I tried booting from recovery media (a usb stick) but that was even more useless than attempting recoveries from inside windows. Also, it would be nice if there was an option to recover files to their original location but with a modified name (instead of overwriting the original file).
Has anyone else had similar hassles, or is it just my magic touch ?

anyone else got any experiences with non-stop backup ? i went through it with support and their conclusion was that no files were saved on the day in question. That was hilarious since i know just one file would have been saved about 100 times during that specific day - and yet currently acronis cannot find a single version of the file in the backup for that day. It can only find a file in the previous day.

I think your problem might be related to the fact that you are using a USB connected device to store the backup and the default power plan that Win 7 uses.

If your USB port being used by your external drive is powered down by WPM then this could be the root of your problem. You can change the power management of your USB ports using Device Manager. Disconnect your USB drive and then follow these steps.

You can disable Power Management by opening the Windows Run window (Win key + R), and entering “devmgmt.msc” (without quotes). After this, hit Enter, and the Device Manager window will open. In the bottom of the window you will see Universal Serial Bus controllers, double-click on it to expand. On each USB Root Hub entry that appears under Universal Serial Bus, do a double-click, and the properties window will open. Go to the Power Management tab, and uncheck the option “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. After doing this, click OK, close the Device Manager window and reconnect your USB device and test to see if this helps.

thankyou for your suggestion which does sound worth a go, although i'm not doing it as yet (but i will eventually !)
For now i have decided to not use the acronis non-stop (I feel the problem lies elsewhere or is something to do with how it is designed).
Instead i am going to use Goodsync for my "non-stop" backups (i find it just works - its great) & i am using TIH for an hourly backup.
I was using goodsync non-stop previously without any problems - I only switched to TIH on a whim (& because i bought the new version / wanted
to give it a whirl)
