True Image version 10 (build 4,942) workgroup connectivity to home networked laptop <-> desktop

Thread needs solution

Hi, I have had a quick look through the forum and can't actually see an obvious answer to anything similar, so sorry if this question has been answered before.

I have TI Home v10.0 installed on my desktop (Win XP SP3) at home. I recently purchased a laptop (Win 7) and have configured a desktop to laptop local home network (ethernet to ethernet via crossover cable) to setup a workgroup network. I have also mapped the laptop's harddrive an a Network drive on the desktop's My Computer. I can see both devices from each other across the workgroup network.

When I start up TI, it is only seeing the desktop's internal HDD and external HDD (where I backup to). But it doesn't display the laptop's HDD, which I assumed would be picked up via the Network Drives mapping.

Have I missed something configuration-wise or doesn't this version of TI support this type of remote/networked laptop backup? If the later, what product should I be looking at?

Thanks

Greg

Greg:

You can only back up a computer that True Image is installed ON. So if you want to back up the laptop then you'd need to install TI on the laptop.

The network connection allows you to back up your local disk TO a network location or to restore your local disk from a backup installed ON a network location.

Hope this helps...

Hi Mark

Thanks for the information. I knew there was a simple answer -- just pay for another one!

And then there is the question that I probably should upgrade ver 10 to Home 2010, more money!

However small price to pay for peace of mind.

Greg

Greg:

Don't be too quick to discard version 10. I still prefer it to the newer versions and still use it today. But hopefully TI 2010 will work well for you.
