[Solved] Acronis 2015 Backup from SSD to USB3 Ext Disk extremely slow
Hello,
I have updated from Acronis THI 2014 to THI 2015 and I expected
at least a slight performance increase.
But THI 2015 is probably even a little slower than THI 2014.
I want to backup a Samsung 830 SSD with 256 GB - used 80.2 GB.
The target is an USB 3.0 external disk ( 2 TB WD MyBook).
The modus "sector by sector backup" is NOT selected.
The calculation of the time needed took 14 (in words fourteen) minutes
and the Backup image creation needed more than 50 minutes.
Total elapsed time to create the backup image was 66 minutes.
To Backup a 380 GB large Samsung HDD ( 45 GB used) to the same target took 15 minutes.
That means Backup of a SSD takes more than double the time as backing up a HDD.
(45 GB versus 80 GB)
Why is Acronis THI so extremely slow. There seem to have been no enhancement since
at least ATHI 2011.
The intention of using an SSD is the faster access of data. But this is turned into the opposite by Acronis.
For me it seems, that Acronis has an extremely inefficient algorithm to back up SSD drives.
And I can see no research going on in order to improve this since years.
Regards
Wolfgang

Confirm that the cable from the WD disk is connected to a usb3 connector also that the usb3 driver is most current for the computer.
Also check that the WD disk has most current firmware. You may have a Start/WD or Western Digital menu listing with WD utilitiy.

Hello
@GroverH
Many thanks for the really helpfull hints.
I updated my system completely - that is I replaced all outdated drivers with "SuperEasy Driver Update" from the "Avira Antivirus Ultimate" package and I upgraded the Firmware of the WD My Book external USB 3.0 drive. Also the Samsumg 830 SSD drivers have been updated.
And this was a full success.
The full drive backup of the Samsung 830 256 GB SSD took now less than 15 minutes. 80 GB have been backed up.
I am really happy. :-))
