Restore on different pc?

Thread needs solution

I bought TI about a year ago and i've been very happy with the results after sveral restores.

However, one thing i am unsure about is this:

If i bought a new pc, with a new drive, graphics cards, mobo ect, would i still be able to use my current image with the new pc?

Obviously, my image would contain the wrong drivers for all the new hardware.

Is ths possible to do, and maybe just a case of updating the drivers or anything else needed?

Or, would i need to install a completely new os and start again, then image that?

The latter would actually deter me from buying a new pc!

Also, what if the new pc had a different os, say current image has Vista, new pc has Windows 7 ?

As you mentioned Stephen, a new PC would require all sorts of configuration changes and it is very doubtful it would boot up using your current (or a copy of) system disc even if you were to use the same operating system. Your data would be recoverable but to do that would depend on how your current and new system is set up; documents and settings for users, partitions, etc... Also, you would have to reinstall your applications but depending on the apps you may be able to save and reintroduce certain settings/config files - far too many applications to give you examples but you could copy Outlook Express mail files/address book and things like that.

However, to avoid all that you could buy the Plus Pack to move your system to a new machine with minimal effort which would of course keep all your applications and settings intact. The plus pack is an addition to TI2010.

Thanks.

I would need to upgrade to TI2010 then.

If i decided to buy a new pc, would my current image work with TI2010 & the Plus Pack so i could restore my image to the new pc (could just buy it then), or do i require TI2010 & the Plus Pack first, then create a back-up with this?

Hello,

Stephen, let me answer your question.

Actually, you do not need to create a new image to restore it with Acronis Plus Pack to a different hardware. However, to create a bootable media with Plus Pack you'll have to install Acronis True Image Home 2010 and Plus Pack.

You can find the detailed guide on how to create a bootable CD with Plus Pack at this forum thread.

Please let me know if you need any additional assistance.

bin, thank you very much for your help.

About your last Q, if you restore a Vista Image on a Win 7 pc, it will wipe out Win 7 and replace it with what's in the Image, i.e. Vista.
