Universal restore error, (Can't boot image) please review my log file

Thread needs solution

I have been testing the Universal Restore feature for Backup and Recovery 2010. So far it has worked when moving an image over from one HP model to another but when we tried to put it on a Systemax pc it is not able to boot into Windows after it completes. I went to the Systemax website and downloaded the VIA 4 in one driver and selected the IDE Win XP folder so it should boot right? Can anyone please review my log file and let me know why it wont boot?

Here is my log file.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Chase Beyer,

Thank you for posting. I will certainly assist you with this.

To get this resolved I will need additional information from you. After the restore of your Systemax machine, when you are unable to boot into Windows, what happens exactly? Is there a constant reboot loop or you get a BSOD with 0x0000007b? If the system keeps rebooting instead of getting to BSOD hit F8 and select the option Disable automatic restart on system failure.

We will also need the appropriate logs to troubleshoot this issue. After you have restored with Acronis Universal Restore, please do not close out of the Acronis bootable media. In the top menu, click on Navigation, view log and save the operation log to any preferable location. After that, in the same top panel please click on tools and select - Collect system information.

I have found your support case where you are working on this issue with our Support engineers. Please send them those logs.

To make sure that you are using Acronis Universal Restore the best possible way. You need drivers for the hard disk drive controller or chipset drivers for the new computer. These drivers are critical for booting the operating system. You can download the drivers for your motherboard on the Vendor's web-site. Please note, if you downloaded the drivers in *.exe, *.cab, *.zip format, you should extract them first. The driver files should have *.inf, *.sys or *.oem extensions.

I would also recommend this article that shows how to use Acronis Universal Restore in detail - Restoring to Dissimilar Hardware with Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Universal Restore.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,

I also encounter the same issue BSOD with 0x0000007b in IBM X3650M2 (VM ESXi 4.0) if using latest ABR_UR boot disc v11345 (download from web). However, the previous ABR_UR boot disc (before v11345) worked fine. Luckily I still keep the old ISO.

For your info, I also tested in other IBM Blade HS20 (VM ESXi 4.0) with boot disc v11345, but is working.

Please advice your development team to integrate the boot disc version.

I had another issue, can direct me to correct forum link? I can't choose "Unallocated" space when I try to recover the volume. I found is due to my allocated space (30GB) small than volume backuped (50GB). The 50GB refer to used space, actually it only 26GB after skip same folder about 24GB.

Hello Alvin Lye,

Thank you very much for bringing up this issue. I will definitely forward your request to our Development team.

To get back to the recovery issue. Can you please let me know the following.

1. What type of backup you are trying to recover.

2. What happens when you select disks instead of volumes?

3. Can you please create screenshots of your steps. This will allow us to troubleshoot this issue better.

4. Can you make screenshots of your Windows Disk management window (right click on my computer->manage->disk management)

5. You can send me a PM with all the screenshots, to avoid publicizing your sensitive information.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi Anton,

I have another server with same issue and need you advice.
Fyi, I managed to recover C: (Win2003) and running, but E: (Data) could not choose the Unallocated space as my attached file and explained sent to PM later.

Hello Alvin Lye,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I have responded to your PM and sent you an updated.

Can you please let me know what other issue you are having so that I can continue assisting you?

Thank you.

In the XP folder of the downloaded driver folder, Acronis says 0 files are inside but there are many .cat files. Can acronis not read .cat file and install them into the image?

Hello Chase Beyer,

Thank you very much for your question. I will be happy to assist you.

Acronis Universal Restore can be used with the following driver extensions: *.inf, *.sys or *.oem. I am afraid our software will not read .cat files and use them in the recovery process together with Acronis Universal Restore.

For additional information, you can refer to this post and this article from our Knowledge Base.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Thank you.

ok so How can I get Acronis to real the drivers for this pc we are trying to restore? I am downloading the driver from here--> http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmi…

When I go to Compaq's website to download the drivers, is has the same format. A setup.exe and a library of .cat files. So what would you suggest? Is there a way to extract the ini files I need?

Hello Chase!

Thank you for your question!

Unfortunately we do not have a tool for unpacking drivers yet, but you can always contact support of your hardware vendor - and they will definitely help you.

Thank you for understanding!
