Resizing Boot Disk Partition............Possible?

Thread needs solution

Hello All,

I am new to the forum and new to the Acronis line of products, at any rate, I need to resize the C: partition on one of my servers at work, is Acronis the best software choice to use in order to accomplish this, if this is possible at all without reinstalling the OS?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Clyde, quick answers are yes and yes. Please have a look at http://download.acronis.com/pdf/DiskDirectorServer10.0_ug.en.pdf

Disk Director can easily resize any partition and you certainly will not need to reinstall anything.

Welcome to the forum

Hopefully, a complete backup of the drive will be made prior to making the partitioning changes (regardless of the partitioning software used). There is always the chance something may go wrong.

Good point, I just assume that system managers know such things about their servers. We all know what assume does though!

Right. Also, there are quite a few posts by people that are new to the area or have been "reassigned" due to company changes and aren't that familiar with normal procedures.

Hi

I'm new to the forum.. I was directed here by Dell..

I have a dell server with 2 x 1TB hard drives.. One is used for data only. And the other is partitioned and still has unallocated space available. C: dive 12gb P: drive 100 gb: S: drive 500 gb and rest unallocated

I too need to increase my C: partition.. The question is will DDS 10 keep all my settings including terminal services, remote access info etc.

I guess basically what I'm asking is can DDS 10 backup system state files and then restore them. Without involving windows server 2003

I would prefer to re-format c: partition only first.. Will DDS 10 aid in this process by backing up all the configurations ?

DD/DDS is not a technically a backup program. It's a partitioning program. True Image (TI) and Backup & Recovery (B&R) are the backup programs.

If you want to make the C: partition larger, you would need to move the other two partitions to the right to make room for C: to grow. Another option (assuming P: contains enough free space that you could use for C:) would be to resize P: smaller from the left and then resize C: to use the newly unallocated space.

It's strongly recommended to create an Entire Disk Image backup prior to making partitioning changes. It's also recommended to change only one partition at a time and reboot Windows after each change. This allows Windows to adjust to one partition change at a time instead of several (which can cause problems).

Why do you want to reformat the C: partition? Reformatting is not required to resize it.

Just in addition, DDS10 might or might not have to physically move data during its partitioning activities but it won't change any of your software settings or info.
