How do I create an image backup of Win7 /Ubuntu dual boot disk?

Thread needs solution

Using Acronis 2013 - I tried to create partition backup. It got most of the way through (judging by the 'thermometer' gauge) but ended with:
Operation with partition '0-0' was terminated.
Details:
Block bitmap corrupted (0x70016)
Tag = 0x8241CADBFCA7131A

Which says there is more information by going to http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/ and entering the following
Event code: 0x000101F6+0x00070016
(of course, there is no such information which is why I am posting here)

and finally:
Operation has completed with errors.
0x9F2C53C72E8BCD1F

So my questions are:
1. Is any of this backup usable?
2. Do I have to do a sector by sector backup to pull this off?
3. Do I have to back up (and restore) the Win7 and Ubuntu partitions separately?
4. Is it possible to restore these partitions separately without hosing the drive?

A lot of my concern is to make sure the MBR is backed up properly because if something goes wrong with that it all goes south in a hurry.

Any thoughts, insights, suggestions greatly appreciated!
TIA, James

My bad: I actually attempted a disk backup *not* a partition backup as I said above. So the pertinent questions are related to whether I can reasonably (easily?) backup and restore partitions independently. I was hoping that I could use a disk backup to restore the entire drive if (when?) it failed.
