TI 2013 After successful consolidation, latest backup cannot be found for file recovery.

Thread needs solution

TI2013/WinXP Pro SP3. After successful automatic consolidation, the latest backup (part of the consolidation process) is not shown when GEAR ICON | Recover Files is invoked. I am given a choice of three earlier backups (weeklies for past three weeks) but not the current, just completed successfully backup. Where is it? Happens on each consolidated backup process. I backup daily, each with a separate task for each day the runs weekly. The main backup window shows that the backup is complete and successful and so states the e-mail notification received, but, it cannot be found/is not displayed for choosing when trying to recover a file. Thanks.

I trust you have visually searched your storage folder to make sure the file is not there.

Acronis Tech Support will help with backup recovery issues. Go to Tech support and indicate you have a recovery issue. This can be done via LIVECHAT.

Hi Grover. Thanks. Yes the backups are there. In another thread about consolidation issues, it was suggested that reforming the backup settings (tab) for the task by abandoning consolidation and using automatic cleanup. I set it for incrementals with a full backup every (5) times and deleting version chain after (42) days. My backup scheme is to backup each day as a separate task (seven days, seven back-ups). This way I am keeping five incrementals (and maxing out at 6 weeks) before "pruning." Good enough for me. This scheme worked for me for "monday" but did not work for tuesday. If the error persists tonight, I will get ahold of tech support as you suggest.

My experience is that consolidation has never worked consistently. I am referring to both manual considation invoked by the user, or when invoked via task settings. The only setting which I have found that has worked acronss almost all versions is to
set a limit on how many chains to keep and let the program do a clean delete of the oldest chain each time the program reaches your set quota.
I avoid all edits or changes to the program.

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Editing an existing task is not recommended. Better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder.

GH11. Create Custom Full Backup Scheme....Store/Keep 4 versions (chains). Use whatever number best fits the individual needs..

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme. ...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

GH13. Create Custom Differential Backup Scheme. ...Keep Full plus 2 Diff per chain. Store/Keep 2 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.
