Erase Recovery Disk in Harddrive

Thread needs solution

I am using the disk cleanser , my hard drive C: 1s 160GB 40GB is the main one being used also there is part of it called recovery FAT32 which is about 4GB, is it safe to use the cleanser on this part, i take it this is where all the deleted files etc are kept ?

Recovery partitions are usually put on the HD by the vendor and they contain files and tools to aid in restoring the PC back to the state it was on day 1.

I don't know what you mean by "is it safe to use the cleanser". The cleanser is a tool to securely wipe all the data off the partitions so who cares, unless you want to keep the data in which case you won't let Drive Cleanser near the partition.

There would be no point at all in 'cleaning' the FAT32 partition, but if you are confident that ATI is doing what it's paid to do you might want to delete it and use the space for something more useful.

Opinions vary of course but in that your recovery partition (EISA partition) is only 4 GB (2.7% of the 149 GB drive) consider keeping it, at least for a while.  A 160 GB drive as sold will display 149 GB in Windows.

Ok probably wont clean it just now, as it is not taking up much space, I was just wondering if this partition is were all tghe deleted files are stored for recovery reasons ? would the partition just increase in size depending on the number of files deleted ?

It isn't used for that at all.  It contains the static files required to restore your computer to factory gate state.  If you are using ATI to create backups of your system, then unless you foresee wanting to return the computer to its original condition, you will have no use for it.  That is why I said cleaning it is pointless and you might want to make better use of the space..
