OS Selector doesn't found Operating System Bootable CD

 Hello to Everyone.

Sorry for my English and I hope it will be understandble :-D

My necessity is to have 3 different OS (XP italian-VISTA italian-Windows 7 english) installed in three different HDD, because I want to have the boot files of each OS indipendent from the other. This functionality is very usefull in comparison of the Microsoft Multiboot where the boot files, of every OS, is installed in the first HDD: if you lose the first HDD you lose every OS installed in other HDD.

Disk Director, with OS Selector, bypass this limit how explained in the user's guide pag. 7 "Boot from second HDD" and after pag. 104.

I begin installing XP pro in HDD 0 partition 1, after I have installed Disk Director on the root of XP and activate OS Selector.

After the reboot OS Selector begin to work but: XP wasn't recognized!. Well I inserted manually XP pro in the bootwiz.css and now it's ok, but the real problem is another:

Normaly Acronis loader lbegin to work before the boot of the OS and show the situation of your System; how many OS you ave in HDD, partition and in theory in the CD or DVD. I said in theory because OS Selector boot menu don't show the OS'CD inserted in own CD/DVD driver.

To add something more the OS Selector begin to work very very slow.

I think (IMHO) that it need that OS Selector boot menu show the OS' CD to begin the installation of another OS in an other HDD. It's true?

The strange thing is that OS Selector under Windows show regulary the OS's CD.

Some one can help me?

my Acronis OS locator is version 10.0 (builds 2.160)

When using OSS to boot versions of Windows newer than XP (currently, Vista and Windows 7) from the non-booting drive, you can't use the Disk Order feature of OSS. All drives must stay in their BIOS (default) order for each OS entry.

If you have OSS working on the XP drive and it will remain the booting drive, don't reinstall OSS on any of the other drives.

When you install Vista and Windows 7, you should have only the destination drive connected to the computer and set as the booting drive. For example: When you install Vista, only the Vista drive is connected and set as the booting drive in the BIOS. The XP and Windows 7 drives are not connected. This will allow Windows to install correctly.

Once you have all three operating systems installed, connect all the drives and set the XP drive as the booting drive. OSS may find Vista, but won't find Windows 7. Instructions for adding Windows (and Vista, if needed) can be found here. If OSS does find Vista, make sure to disable the Disk Order feature (if enabled) before booting into it.

OSS does not see all CD/DVD drives and if it can't see the drive to it can't boot it from the menu. As far as I know, there isn't any way around this problem.

you confirm what I have discovered this night: to install each OS separately with the drive of the others OS not connected.

Now XP and Vista are installed and all seems ok.

Now I begin with Windows 7 ant maybe de hidden partition that W7 create give problem.

When you install Windows 7, if you only want a single partition, create the partition before you install. Then select this partition as the installation destination and Windows 7 won't create the small partition. Note that you can create and format the installation partition using the Windows 7 installer. If you have already created the partition or are installing into an existing partition, reformat the partition using the Windows 7 installer to avoid problems.

 I do it!

I read your post and in specific the last row few minute ago...too late... If I read before I could save 1 hour!!! :-D It's my fault...

But it's ok!!!about the few minute

Now I have installed xp pro - Vista and Windows 7 each one in own HDD. But to prevent problem with boot manager of vista and 7 was need to manage the root partitions with hidden/active. Tomorrow I think that I  will do the last test about boot without OS Locator...but I immagine that if I don't want to lose the OS I must to use each one without other HDD connected...
