Networking Problems

Thread needs solution

Hi all!

Love my Acronis True Image Home 2009, but recently came across a big issue:( For the last four mounths I have fought tooth and nail with problems  sharing on the network....changing my IRPStackSize and everything. It finally came down to a business issue, with my job on the line.  Now that I read this online (http://winhlp.com/node/40), I realized that it is actually the software causing the problem.  By uninstalling my Acronis software, my problems have resolved.  Please come up with a fix to correct this problem! HELP!

PS other wise the software is awesome  Bob

Hello Bob,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

Can you please clarify what is the exact title of the program and the build number? First of all please make sure that you are using the latest build of the program. Check it in Help -> About. You can always download the latest build of the program from your account under Registered Products.

Please refer to the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 177078 for a workaround (also applies to Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008).

I don't know the number because I uninstall the program but I'm sure it was the first that came with the download (installed about June this year, i know i said four mounths but i was wrong). That article from ms is no good with the work around, and if you read the link you will understand that the only fix is to uninstall the program. I am surprised that this is the first that you guys heard about this. But when I have some time I will reinstall the program and look for updates because I think the program works well otherwise.  Thanks Bob

Bob,
It might be helpful to know what operating system you are running as well as any service packs you might have installed.  Additionally it would be helpful to know what antivirus and firewall software you might have.  The Microsoft IRPStackSize adjustment usually fixes this but there are a few folks that are having problems.

Sry..... my  operating sytstem is XP Home and antivirus is PC Tools. I also tryed meny different IRPStakeSize amount as well.

Thanks again for the reply

Bob

OK, things just got worse. I down loaded the latest version (12.0.0.9796). Uninstalled the old, restarted my pc.... installed the new version, restarted my pc... and my pc will not get pasted the windows logo (just sits there turning). Turn off the pc... restart choose (restart last best know configureation)... restart and now I get the desk top. Go and open acronis and get this error (http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u291/pure_macgyver/acroniserror.jpg). So now I'm thinking I need to reinstall and go to uninstall the progam and no go. Starts to uninstall then this error (http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u291/pure_macgyver/acroniserror2.jpg) now what? Is there an Acronis clean tool? Pease help!

Thanks Bob

Thanks you for replying!  Ran the tool and it removed files. started the installation again and it gave me a modify, repair and uninstall choice so I take it that it didn't remove enough. But I was able to remove it and this is how I did it. repaired the software and when it prompt me to restart the pc I choose no. and then ran the wizard again and choose uninstall and it uninstalled. At this point I thought I was out of the woods restarted... reinstalled looks good and when I restart again it gets stuck at the windows logo just turning. I removed my password and tired again..... same thing. I'm about to revert to the old update. Man this is getting me down. Can anyone tell me how big the 9719 update is this way I can check against mine maybe my down load is no good.

Thanks again!

Bob

Do you mean the 9,796 downloaded file (you wrote 9,719)?

For the US English version, this is what I have:

Filename: TrueImage2009.9796_s_en.exe

MD5: 0f7b0c028fcc684e836094d743fcf6eb

Size: 91.0MB (95,509,680 bytes)

TrueImage2009.9796_s_en is what I used. It was late last night. I did uninstall it one more time and from the install menu I downloaded the update and installed it... same thing. Do you think running SLI configuration has anything to with it?

Thanks again for the help.

Bob

I face a similar problem. As soon as I install TrueImage2009 v9769 (german version) I cannot access the internet. I even can't access my Internet router via "fritz.box" which normally works. The Windows diagnostics shows "probably a DNS problem". But i reach my internet router using its IP-address. Very strange ...

If I uninstall TI2009 everythings works fine again.

Maybe important: I have ESET SmartSecurity v4 installed !!

Please keep on going

This just keeps going on and on and on. There a lots of people here having network problems when using TI 2009 Home build 9796 yet nothing seems to be being done.

I for one have uninstalled TI completely and am trialing Norton Ghost v14.0

I did more troubleshooting.

The result: I deactivated ESET PersonalFirewall complete, System restart. Now I have access to internet plus AcronisTI2009 activ. This is constant and reproducable.

If I set ESETpersonalFirewall to another "deactivate status" (there are 2 more in the settings) I can't acces the internet. To me the solution is "ESET PersonalFirewall complete deactivate" and hoping my internet router will block the bad guys...

OK don't really know what was up with the install problem but I did a restore and was able to update to the next version. Now back to the main reason why I posted in the first place networking.......... Question for the acronis guys or anyone that had to deal with this. I have been adjusting my IRPStackSize (PC1)(changed to15) and was able to connect to the other pc's, but when I went to the other PC2 and tried to connect to PC1 it gave me the error. Do all the pc's have to have the same IRPStackSize? or do they have each there own values?

Thank You Again Bob

Bob,

The IRPStackSize value needs to be adjusted on each PC.  It can be the same number or it can be different, doesn't matter.  The default is decimal 15 but frequently this needs to be increased.  Initially I had problems with 15 so I increased each PC, (I have 2) to 18 and that seemed to work.  Later I changed each to decimal 21 and that has also worked reliably.

Bruce that seemed to be the magic number. Finally this has been resolved. I just want to thank everyone who helped out!

Bob

Thanks for the feedback.  Sometimes these things can be very frustrating.  Happy to hear that you were successful.

Bruce

Back again and was interested to know if there is a cap on the number in the IRPStackSize value. My four PC's in the house don't stay fixed. I'm constantly adjusting it. I wish there was a permanent fix. Anyone know if I upgrade to 7 if this problem will go away? I hear that 7 has a very good networking system.

Thanks Bob

Bob, I believe that the upper limit is decimal 50. If using a higher number than necessary you will suffer a performance hit. I still maintain that setting the IRPStackSize to decimal 18 or 21 should work and it should not change by itself. No experience with Windows 7. Are you using any applications that modify/'cleanup' the Registry?

Bruce

OK here is the deal. 1 All four pc's use XP home, 2 all run spydoctor with antivirus. 3 All have acronis installed (and the latest version). We don't use any registry fixer (don't believe in them). We all make back ups through the network to one harddrive that is connected to my pc. and I do believe I have it shared right, here is a pic. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u291/pure_macgyver/network1.jpg

So got one to work.... then two... then three. the next day try number one (which is a laptop) again and can't connect. So tweaked the numbers and that one works, but then the next one stops.....urgh. I just got a invite for the next version and not a chance. Untill I at least get a year outta this one. The software looks and sounds great but doesn't live up to it.

Bob trying my hardest to give it chance but I think it's getting the best of me.
