Consolidating backup

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

Ok, this has been going on for years (I've had True Image since version 2012 and currently have 2015 but I am BETA testing 2016).

Anyway's, after every single incremental backup, it will always do "consolidating backup" and it takes forever. Is there a way to make it NOT do this? I hate that it does it because it means I have to leave my laptop on pretty much overnight, it takes that long.

Now, I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it or not, but I run my backups like once every 3 months, so it tends to be a lot of data.

Thank you in advance!

Could the message be "validating" rather than "consolidating"?

Anyway, stop using your existing backup task and set it up according to one of these methods. This works for version 2012 and newer including the 2016 beta.

------------------------------------------------

Depending upon the type of backup scheme you wish to create, here is an example of each type. These can be set up for Disk image, or Partiton, or Files-folders backups. These example show how to set up automatic cleanup so the program will do the deletion after it reaches your set goal of how many chains to retain.

Editing an existing task is not recommended. Rarely does an edited task perform to user expectations. It is usually better to start with a new task using a new non-identical task name and point to a new storage sub-folder so each task has it own storage folder/sub-folder. Old task can be stopped or deleted from the task listings.

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

GH13. Create Custom Differential Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 2 Diff per chain. Store/Keep 2 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

Thanks so much for the speedy response!

It definitely says consolidating backup. =\

However, what about the current backups? Is there no way to 'convert' them? Or, do I just have to suck it up and start a new set?

You can keep the backups--if you have the space. It is the consolidation which is causing the delay.
It is also the consolidation process which has caused others to lose some their backups and the resulting backups not be restorable.
The Full backups have definite keeping value and maybe the other but I do recommend that you start over with a new task.

Interesting, I have recently experience Consolidating Back up with ATI 2016, specifically after updating to build 6027; see here:
