You could try removing the file and see what happens.
Otherwise, you may need to manually edit the registry and remove the snapman entry (assuming it's still there). You can do this from the new XP you installed.
- Start the Registry Editor.
- Click on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key to select it.
- Click on the File menu and select Load Hive...
- Select the C: partition.
- Browse to the C:\Windows\System32\config folder. Make sure to browse the OLD Windows folder.
- Select the system file and click the Open button.
- A box will come up asking for the Key Name.
- Type in XP-Old and click the Ok button.
- You should now see the XP-Old entry added to your local registry under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key.
- Click on XP-Old to select it.
- Press Ctrl-F to pull up the Find box.
- Type in upperfilters and click Find Next. This should take you to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\XP-Old\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
If it doesn't, use the tree on the left to browse to it. - You should see the UpperFilters value in the right-side window. It should have PartMgr and snapman in it.
- Double-click UpperFilters to edit it and delete snapman from the list. Do not remove any other entries from the list.
- Unload the Hive by clicking on XP-Old to highlight it, selecting the File menu, and then selecting Unload Hive... Finally, click Yes and then close the Registry Editor.
Reboot the computer and try booting into the old XP system.

Does the black screen have the mouse cursor?
Is the blinking cursor a plain text cursor in the top-left corner?
Can you get into any of the Safe Mode options (networking, no networking, console)?
Are both XPs using the same "\Program Files" and "\Documents and Settings" folders? There may be permission problems if they are.
Have you tried any of the methods in this Microsoft KB article?

Thanks very mutch for your help. I spend to many time on this software from Microsoft. In 30 minutes, I installed Ubuntu 11.04 in dual boot. He find all my peripherals and all works. Now, I will save all my important documents. I own too a Apple iMac. I switch all my documents on Mac and I put my old XP to the trashcan.
I calculate: 1 hour for reinstall XP. 1 hour for more than 100 update. 30 minutes for SP3. And many hours to reinstall software. This challenge is not for me.
More thanks for your help and for the time you spent. You can close this discussion.
Excuse me for bad english language, but my mother tongue is Swiss french.
Best regards.

Good post. Since last week Windows 10 free push-install, a part of Windows users upgrade their Windows system to Windows 10. Blue screen is one of the problems to Windows 10. There are other problems about Windows 10. Such as freezing, crashing and boot up. I meet the problem is can't boot up Windows 10. Then I searched on Google to find a Windows boot genius to help me.
