Windows 10 won't allow True Image to install

Thread needs solution

I've been running TI 2015 for the last few months under Windows 8.1 with some success (currently waiting for 2016 to get continuous backup working again) but having checked that the latest build of true image is windows 10 compatible and performing a full PC backup I have upgraded, confident in the fact that I can carry on backing up.

Unfortunately the true image installer fails at approximately 50%. I've tried a fresh download of the installer and disabling my AV to no avail.

The build is 6613

If you had ATI2015 Bld 6613 installed before you upgraded Win 8.1 to Win 10, Why are you re-installing ATI 2015?

I have had ATI2015 installed for 5 months, if have performed win 10 preview upgrades a couple months ago, ATI2015 worked like a charm, No need to re-install. Yesterday I installed the released version of WIN 10 and yesterday I did a full backup with ATI2015.

Thanks to a screw up in my anti-virus package I was forced to repair the install which uninstalled all applications - including TI

Many people will also choose (for various reasons) to perform a clean install of Windows 10. I am one of them, and the increasing number of reports of problems installing a supposedly compatible version of ATI2015 is making me very nervous!

It turns out that, for now, the option to clean install is not possible unless you pay for a new windows 10 license instead of upgrading. The only option is to reinstall the base operating system and then upgrade again which is how I got to this point. So if anyone has any ideas on how to "fix" this instead of just ignoring the problem I would really like to hear it.

I know this isn't a proper support channel but right now I've had my fill of Acronis' money grabbing attitude to support and fixing things.

Having just read through the release notes for 6613 this is a known issue - so now not only is continuous backup broken until 2016 is released I can't even do a basic backup! Anyone got an eta on release 3?

Fortunately, I am an MSDN subscriber, so I do have access to regular install media for Windows 10. I was able to install 6613 on a clean W10 install without difficulty, and subsequently do a standard backup, also without difficulty. There are some minor (once you sort them out!) issues with accessing NAS devices under W10, and I have not tested everything exhaustively, but I am currently somewhat reassured.

After Win 10 Upgrade and then Reset for "clean install", I get the following in the middle of installation of Acronis TI 2015:

An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,type="win32",version="8.0.50727.6195",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="amd64"'.
Please refer to Help and Support for more information.

Is this what everybody is getting when the installation fails?

Is there a fix for this now?

Any suggestions?

Cheers.

Please confirm that you are attempting to install the latest build on ATI 2015: build 6613 as it is the only one that is described as being able to run on Windows 10 (it was released on 22 July).

Hi,

No, this is the original upgrade to 2015 that I downloaded a few months ago.

Where do i get the latest version?

Many thanks for your prompt reply, by the way....

Cheers.

Hi

You got to www.acronis.com, log into your account (MY ACCOUNT tab at top of the page), Click on Get Upates, and click on ATI 2015, and you can download it from there.

OK...tried to install with this latest build, however I get exact same error.

I have run sfc /scannow, etc (no errors)...and all updates are up to date.

Not sure what to do now, as I am not getting any issues with any other program installs.....

You may need to run the ATA 2015 clean-up utility before you can get the installation to work.

I tried using this....it just stated "Wrong Windows Version Detected"...and just gave you the option of closing down....

You may need to change the properties to 'Run as' either Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1. Right click on the file and select file porperites, and click on the 'Run As Tab'. I used this approach to install several drivers for ancient SATA add in cards.

The windows 7 compatibility switch did the job - just noticed that Microsoft have conveniently placed a "compatibility troubleshooter" option on that properties tab that made the right recommendation itself...

I have started from the beginning by re installing 8.1, and redoing the upgrade / clean install as I had a couple of issues with other software too, that I hadn't had on the other machines. But I will keep this method in mind if it should happen again.

Cheers.

I tried that, and still would not install.... Comes up with the same error message.

I ended up installing my previous version ATI 2014......without any issues whatsoever.

So obviously it is a Windows 10 and ATI 2015 conflict.

Cheers.

The only other thing I did (previously and without success at the time) was to grant wider permissions on the Windows\WinSxS folder which is the traditional root of the problem with vc2005 redist. Given the ability of the installer to work in compatibility mode suggests that this is at least a part of the problem, the other versions of the redist installed just fine by themselves but the one used by TI2015 is rather obscure and not readily available as a standalone installer so I struggled to prove that bit in isolation.
