Backup is Very Slow
I upgraded from Seagate DiskWizard to Acronis True Image 2015 last week. Before I did the upgrade, I imaged my HD using DiskWizard -- it took slightly over an hour. Now since I am using Acronis True Image 2015, it is unbelievably slow. I tried doing a backup yesterday, but after an hour, it said over 20 hours remaining. It took about a half hour just to back up 1 GB. Is this normal? If so, can I use my PC while the backup is running?
MY external HD which I am backing up to is Seagate 1TB. The backups I have done already with Seagate DiskWizard are still on there, but occupy less than 200GB. The PC I am backing up is Windows 7, 1TB HD, which has slightly less than 100 GB of data on it. It also has "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" -- don't know if that makes a difference or not.
I tried speeding up the process by changing the policies of the external HD, by selecting "better performance" and "enable write caching" on the device. I did not select "Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing on this device" because I do not have an external power supply, and the warning is there for a reason. This did not change the speed, so I set the settings back to default settings again.
Also, I shut down processes that would compete with disk reads and writes, such as World Community Grid -- I closed this app entirely.
I do not know the build number of Acronis -- could not find it using the instructions provided elsewhere in this forum.

I encountered the same problem and solved it (in a terrible manner I think) by starting the backup from a DVD restore disk. Every time I've attempted a backup with 2015 the same thing happened. This was never an issue prior to this crappy version.

Thanks for the reply. Not sure if I understand what you mean? So you created a bootable CD or DVD, and, by booting with that disk, you are able to access a menu item to back up your HD to an external HD?
I just don't understand -- something is wrong for it to go that slow. :-(

Actually was backing up to another internal disk and yes, it only worked fast if I booted acronis 2015 from a stand-alone CD. If I attempted the same backup from within the normal Acronis 2015 menu, it ran agonizingly slow - 15 to 20 hours for a 25GB drive. No thanks.

@littlepeaks,
Why kind of speed do you get when you copy a very large file (like a couple of GB) from one disk to the other?

Hi Pat L
The biggest file I could (easily) find was a Windows Memory Dump (probably from a BSOD last year) of about 1 GB. It copied pretty fast -- didn't time it. So I tried running Acronis backup again today, and -- lo and behold -- it ran OK. It stopped for about a minute at about 9MB, and then it stopped for a few minutes at about 6.9 GB, but it completed the backup in about an hour (go figure). The only thing I did since yesterday is tried copying that file, and rebooting the PC (I had to install a Norton Security update). The backup file size on my external HD is about 59 GB. So I guess I'd better make a recovery disk, so that this file is of use if my HD crashes.
So I guess this one is solved for now. I am marking this thread as "Resolved", since I don't think we found out what the problem was exactly. Thanks.

Resolved? The files I'm actually talking about are in the neighborhood of 410GB in size. Under 2014 it took about 2 hours give or take. As I pointed out, in this version you're looking at 20 hours unless I boot from the recovery disk. So, not even resolved. By the way, I'm dropping back to Acronis 2014 as a direct result of this and the lousy UI in 2015.

Well, I meant resolved for me -- I will get rid of the "resolved" label. I also successfully created the boot disk. Sorry you're still having trouble.
