Can't backup network drive
Did I make a mistake in purchasing True Image Home 2010? I have setup a daily backup task where I Want to backup the local C: drive and a mapped network drive. When the task executes, it fails with the message "File I/O error function=CreateFileW process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process". The network drive is a mapped drive in a small business network. This PC DOES NOT have a user id or password. When setting up the backup task and selecting this mapped drive, I receive the message "Yoou have selected a remote resource and have not specified credentials for it. Do you want to continue? I proceed and then enter the credentials of the PC the task is running from. Yet, when the task runs it fails. Am I missing something or is there a bug in 2010? I sure hope youo can help because as it stands now I have no backups.

Does anyone have any input for me? I am truly lost on this issue.

What OS are you using? Most times you need a userid and password to run the scheduled tasks. Try setting up both drives with a simple userid and password and put them in the appropriate place in the task.

I am using Windows XP Pro. The mapped drive is connected to a desktop that does not have a user id. I tried your suggestion of adding one but that did not resolve the issue. Some reading I have done suggests using a full unc path name but I do not see where I Can specify that in TI.

Take a look at this thread, especially the 7th post regarding entering unc path name.

Thank you for all the input. Unfortunately it did not help resolve the problem. I do think I have resolved the issue however.
First of all, what I discoverd is that are two sets of credentials that need to be entered. The first one was for the mapped drive itself. In order to do that, I had to select the mapped drive from the LEFT pane, not the right pane. Then, after selecting it there, I had to wait close to 10 minutes for TI to recognize it, even though WIndows had access to it already. That is simply terrible. Once TI recognizes it, then an option for Set Credentials appears in the tool bar, but not until. Previously I had not seen that as who in their right mind would think you have to wait that long?
Second, when you get to the scheduling tab, it wants you to specify the Run with credentials. Those are for the desktop where the task is running from. Since I had never seen the Set Credentials before, I assummed this entry was for the mapped drive.
I think it is resolved but just tonight I got the scheduled task to run. I want to see this run for a few days before I will consider it closed.
All I can say is shame on Acronis! As is noted often in this forum, their support is so thin as to be non-existent. Their documentation mentions nothing about credentials for the situation I am trying to do which is pretty common. Lousy documentation and no support. What a racket. This makes me nervous as to the validity of the backups themselves. Will they be okay and will I be able to restore from them.
At this point I would not recommend Acronis products to anyone. I would be very interested in other opinions on this topic.

Hello Jim,
Thank you for your response.
Specifying the UNC path makes it easier to establish network connection in most cases. Please see chapter 6.3.5 Backing up to a network share of User Guide for Acronis True Image Home 2010 available here for the step-by-step instructions on how to manage a task.
Also please see the following articles available in our Knowledge Base:
1) Saving an Image to a Mapped Drive from an Acronis Backup Task Fails Sporadically.
4) Providing Credentials in Acronis True Image Schedule Task Wizard
5) Setting Folder Permissions to Work with Acronis True Image.
Please let us know if you feel that we should create some more articles or improve the existent ones, the information should be clear for all.
We are looking forward to hearing back from you. Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.
Thank you.

Doesn´t work for me too. The problem is "Backing up FROM a mapped network share!!!". It worked fine with my old TIH 10 (not 2010!!!). Seems like the newer versions are very buggy!!!
