Unable To Mount Image In Read Write Mode
I'm running Acronis TI 2014 on Windows 8.1 Pro with Hyper-V enabled. Whenever I try to mount an image in Read Write Mode it's greyed out. I can mount images in read write mode using another computer on my network running Acronis TI 2012 on Windows 7 Home Premium. Seems the problem is isolated to my computer.

I've tried disabling AV and had the same problem. It seems to be an incompatibility with Acronis TI 2013 & 2014 with Windows 8.1. I have a 2 in 1 running Acronis TI 2013 on Windows 8.1 and it has the same problem.

Have you registered your product? I am not sure if TI does this or not but often times functions within programs are disabled until such time as product is registered.

Yes, I've registered my product. Has anybody else tried to mount an image in read write mode using Windows 8.1 and Acronis TI 2013 or 2014?

Did you try mounting with all the normal non-lettered partitions deselected?

I just tried with an archive stored on a NAS and the read/write option was greyed out as well.

I too am unable to mount in read write mode. The box is grayed out. Running windows 7 acronis 2014. Backups are full and then differential.

Joe,
Curious. Can you mount in read only mode?
Also, with TrueImage closed, would you use the Windows Explorer and browse to one of tib files and double cloick on the tib file.
Does it open for exploring?

It mounts in read only mode. Also I can browse from windows explorer.

I don't know. See if the option to select C only (in read/write mode) helps. De-select the other partitions.
Is this installed for "all users"?
As mounting for read/write would redquire more permissions, Windows security may be part of the issues. But I am guessing.

Joe,
Perhaps someone else has some answers as to why you can mount partition C only of Win7-2014 in read mode but not read/write mode.
If within 30 days of purchase, ask Acronis via support.
Did you try disabling you AV before mounting?

I am experiencing the same problem.
I badly need to recover from archive but it has MFT issues which can be resolved by mounting the archive and fixing the errors by chkdsk /r /f. However, I can not fix the errors because the drive is mounted in write-protected mode while option "Mount in read-write mode" is grayed out. The archive was originally created on another PC (running win7) by another local version of ATI 2014. But running chkdsk on this PC generates millions of unclear errors messages such as:
1. "Insufficient disk space to correct errors in index $SII of file 9."
2. "Error in writing the output log"
To complete the error fixing process I have copied the archive to another PC with fast SSD drive running win 8.1 pro. All the file permissions were set to have full (read-write) control. And here I get stock with the problem of mounting the archive in read-write mode.
Yes, I have been chatting with Acronis support regarding this issue more than 6 hours with no success.

I have solved my problem. I had a recursive subversion (named basename2.tib) located right next to the original archive (named basename.tib). I was able to open the subversion in read-write mode without problems.

I have teh same problem with mounting in read-write mode, my archive are divided in 22 files each 4,5 GB on size.
what exactly did you do that you were abelk to mount your archive in read-write-mode?
Thanks in advance for your help

Hello, I am using Windows 8.1 and True Image 2014. When I mount a backup file for exploring the contents with Windows Explorer, I have many Windows errors. If I do the same with the Administrator account, I destroy Windows. This problem did not occur with True Image 2013. May I know if this trouble has been corrected by Acronis and if True Image 2015 presents the same trouble ?

After reading this thread, I decided to attempt this (even though I actually have no need to)
Windows 8.1 Pro 64 running ATI 2014 Premium 6673
I randomly picked a disk backup I have from one of my laptops (a Win7 rig), which is set up incremental and is on the 8th increment. I right-clicked the 8th increment in Windows Explorer and selected True Image - Archive - Mount from the menu.
I was successful, read/write mode was an option and eventually (it seemed to take a relatively long time) the volume mounted. Core i5, 8GB RAM and Samsung 840 Evo ... you get used to things happened instantly.
Looks like it's a case by case issue, not simply a Win8.1 or ATI 2014 thing.

I found this thread after upgrading to ATI 2015 and couldn't find any option to mount a partition in read-write mode.
After some more searching I discovered that mounting partitions in read-write mode has been discontinued in ATI 2015 according to the discontinued features on the site. :-(
Looks like it's back to 2014 for me as I need that feature quite often.

Wow, seriously? This is about the stupidest thing Acronis has done, and they've done some pretty stupid things.
I am just rebuilding my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga. Clean install of the OS after making a full backup with Acronis.
Mount the drive to pull back files from desktop, documents, etc, from the old build, and of course I can't. I used to be able to get permission by clicking "continue" to get access. But of course with the image only in read only mode, that won't work anymore.
So basically they just shafted anyone who wants to rebuild their computer because the SID is different, even though I'm using the same account and same password...
Way to go Acronis - I've been faithfully upgrading and staying current year to year - apparently that's a mistake now...

I'm rolling back to 2010 from 2015 to regain this "feature."
mount/read write is no longer in the context menu or anywhere in the new GUI -- which looks too metro'd out. newsflash: since early 2010 nobody liked metro in windows 8 or windows phone.
additionally you'll see another "Feature" is clone disk -- here we can clone your disk to a LARGER disk. what? why? why not smaller? power to the people!

SOLVED: You must have initial control over the image file on the running operating system.
REASON: True Image will fail over to read-only without much verbosity or documentation on the matter.
PROBLEM: You do not have write access to the image file to begin with. Additionally, if you are accessing the image from a Windows network location, the file permissions must first be set to r/w for all access, network and filesystem.
SOLUTION: Once you correct the permissions, re-mount the image and it will automatically mount read/write.

Did you ever resolve this, it seems pretty similar to the problems I'm having.
Did a full disk backup of my laptop C: SSD drive running WIN7 Pro to an external USB drive. Checked the backup under WIN7, worked fine. Reformatted drive, installed WIN10 Pro from USB key, ceated userid...
Can mount the drive, but it seems it's only Read Only. Can restore the {\User} folder from the backup and can then access individual folders, especially the hidden %localappdata% folders which have some must have files.
Since they are restored to an SSD drive, I can then change the ownership. But having to restore an entire {User} just to recover a couple of files is nonsense, especially when the {User} folder is some 78Gb. Using Acronis through the UI to recover files doesn't show any hidden subfolders like %localappdata% unless you set view hidden files/folders in a WIN10 Explorer menu, which is confusing and dangerous in Acronis...

I checked and double checked, the R/W option discussed in this article never appears and so can't be selected.

Write mode does not exist in version 2015 or 2016.
Only TrueImage version 2015 or 2016 supports Windows 10.

Using 2016 and unable to mount write mode to recover my old files in document folder.
Found an alternative anyway. No need to mount the tib. Under backup tab choose "Recover File", and there can choose which folders/files to copy out and save to any location u like.

I don't get why they took out mount as read/wright. It was super good to mount it and it made another .tib from the new things you changed so it did not change the main backup. Now can't even open on another Windows 10 because it can't wright on it now.

This is an old topic from 3 years ago and nothing has changed since the comments above were made.
Only ATIH 2015 or later is supported for use with Windows 10 (officially) though I know that 2014 will work if is already installed or you disable the Windows compatibility checker to get it installed.
If you have one of these versions then you should be able to open .TIB files by double-clicking in Windows Explorer or right-clicking and taking the Mount option for True Image. This has nothing to do with the images being opened in read-only mode, it is just how the Windows shell integration works when ATIH is installed in Windows.
