[RESOLVED] Scheduled backups not starting
I am using Acronis TI for I don't know how many years. Just switched to TI 2016 under Windows 10 .. and have the same issues I had with TI 2015. The one and only scheduled task (backup on shutdown or restart) simply does not run. I have deleted the ASZ and set it up again. I have deleted the job and set it up again. I have deleted startup manager and set it up again. If I start the job manually, it runs. System resources are more than plentiful. What's "new" in TI 2016 so far is that the ASZ does not mount in file explorer. It sits there, but cannot be viewed by any means. Concerning the scheduling problem: Any idea anyone?

#BS#,
I did some testing of the 2016 scheduling option (Upon event) "Backup on shutdown or restart".
As best I can determine from my testing, that option will create backups on "restarts",
but will NOT create a backup when the shutdown command is selected.
This failure to work appears to be a bug using this option to create a backup at shutdown.
An alternative might be to create a non-scheduled task with the "shutdown" option enabled. Then you run that task at shutdown manually, or have a desktop shortcut to run the task by clicking the desktop shortcut..
You might also be able to use the Windows Task Scheduler to run a non-scheduled task via the Windows Scheduler at Windows shutdown but I did not test that option.
I will report this thread to the forum moderator.

Thanks GroverH. Of course you can just manually start the backup job, but that's not really what I intended to use Acronis TI for. I have 5 licenses running and need some kind of automation. What I found out though was that Schedule Manager may be key to solving the problem. I have never used Schedule Manager before and therefore do not really know how to fully utilize it. Anyway, I had Schedule Manager display the list of scheduled jobs and to my surprise found a dozen or so although the Shutdown job was the only one I had set up. Must have been multiple instances of it just hanging around there. I deleted them, again with Schedule Manager, reschuled the job and shut down the computer. This time the scheduled (shutdown) job was triggered! However, it only did one time. Maybe someone more into scheduling and / or Schedule Manager has an idea? Maybe some official Acronis support member has the time to look into something that obviously cripples the product and keeps people from using it as intended?

In my testing, I could only get the backup to occur on shutdown if you chose the restart rather than shutdown.
What are you using for your Control/Power configurartions? A setting of "balanced" seems to work better than if the setting is a >maximum performance setting.
If I were you, I would initiate a support ticket and see if you can get Acronis help with this. YOu only have the firtt 30 days from purchase and a posting on the forum will not normally get you any help from Acronis.

Well, my power configuration is set to maximum and I do not see the point of changing that. Why would one adjust the environment of an entire system just to be able to run a scheduled job? If Acronis can "see" a restart, why can't it "see" a shutdown being triggered? And anyway, the entire TI scheduling setup is idiotic here. Why are "restart" and "shutdown" coupled in ONE option? If I want to backup on shutdown, I may not want this to happen on restart. In fact, a backup on restart is nothing but a pain in the butt. Do some system changes and reboot to see their effect - and you're waiting endlessly until the unwanted backup had ended. Yes, I know, switch scheduling of that job temporarily.. But that just shows how unthoughtful and unfriendly all this is programmed. If for what ever reason both the "restart" and the "shutdown" event need to be coupled, then why not at least have an option displayed for some seconds to be able to cancel the job? I have initiated a support ticket concerning the shutdown trigger and will report once I received Acronis' response.

Support says they know about the problem and will try to fix it. Doesn't sound like near future however.

I just wanted to share the answer that I got today from the Acronis expert team on this ticket:
In short it says that if the computer is set to FAST BOOT, Acronis will not be able to detect and intercept the shutdown procedure, while restart is not affected. So in order to have TI start a backup on shutdown you will have to ensure that the Fast Boot option is not set. My PCs are set and will stay to Fast Boot, as I just love the speed they start up in. So it takes some discipline to remember to run the backup first and then shut off the machine.

Why not now try to use the Windows TAsk Scheduler and see if you have any success there.

Of course, kind of completely forget about that .. Thanks for reminding, Grover!
