Recovery via USB works fine, via SATA not

Thread needs solution

Hello Acronis Community,

I have made an backup from an 4GB SATA SSD (MBR + two partitions (16MB some GRUB stuff and 3.799GB Windows Embedded) ) to a local SDD (SATA). No special Options set.

If I recover the whole Data from the Backup on my SSD to an empty 16GB SATA SSD, the GRUB-Bootloader fails and Windows Embedded did not start. In Acronis I have selected under Backup-Content: "drives".

If I copy the .TIB and .xml fiele to an USB 3.0 Stick and start the recovery like before the Bootloader is able to boot Windows Embedded.

I have tried it several times (20x), with different settings. Also I copied the Backup to other HDD/SSD. Nothing helps, except to recover from the USB Stick. What is this for an crazy error?

Please Help:)

Hello Max,

This does sound very weird. Normally, the backup source location should have zero impact on the result of the restoration (unless it is physically damaged like with bad blocks or something). This is probably not the case here, as you mentioned you copied the backups to other HDD/SSD drives.

Could you send the recovery log for both recoveries for me to look at?

- First do the local SSD => empty SATA SSD recovery
- Do not reboot the machine and go to Logs -> change the drop down from Activities to Event and click "save all to file"
- Next, do the same thing for the USB Stick => empty SATA SSD recovery with the same exact settings.

Thank you.

So its done. The Logs are in german :( sorry.

If I recover from SSD (SATA) the GRUB partition is 64MB and in the Log is an error line:"GRUB-Activator" could not ascertained... (Acronis said the recovery was successfull).

If I recover from USB the GRUB partition is 16MB and ther is no error message in the Log.

apropos: my OS is WIN10x64

Hello Max,

We should create a ticket to investigate the issue, as the deeper investigation on the forum is not possible.

Thank you,
