Backup of folder from NAS - "Cannot find the partition selected for the backup."?!

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have been using Acronis True Image 2015 without any problems. Now when I upgraded to 2016, I get the following error when trying to backup a folder from my NAS to the Acronis cloud: "Cannot find the partition selected for the backup."?!

I have not managed to find any explanation for this.

I get the same error no matter what folder I select from the NAS. I can browse the content of the NAS fine from Acronis (when selecting backup source), error happens only when I try to run the backup.

I have tried to re-create the backup task many times, and selecting different files and folders for backup. Still does not work. Backup from local disks to Acronis cloud works fine!

I suspect it could be an access problem, but a) why does browsing the files work from Acronis work, and b) it does not ask me to type the credentials.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I think you are right in assuming that this is an access problem. The application does not in all instances ask for credentials logon. My suggestion to you is to add the logon credentials into Windows Credential Manager and see if that makes a difference. In Win 10 simply search for Windows Credential Manager and once it appears in the list select it to open.

Thanks for your reply! I checked that the NAS is already listed (both by name and by IP) in Windows Credential Manager. Any other ideas? Can I force Acronis to ask for credentials?

You can try by entering the full path of the storage folder in the address bar at the top of the GUI screen in the following format example:

\\MyNAS\backups\etc.

If credentials are indeed needed this should trigger the logon credentials box.

Thanks. It seems I can enter the full path of any folder on the NAS and I can see the files in the browser. Problem is only when I try to backup.

You will probably have to redo the steps for a recovery by using the address bar.

Can you please clarify what you mean? Not clear to me. Thanks.

I changed the password for the NAS-user. Acronis browser still did not ask for login credentials. Now only public folders were visible. After I added the updated password to Windows Credential Manager, Acronis behaved as it did before I changed the password. I can browse the NAS ok, but backup fails with "Cannot find the partition selected for the backup."

I suspect this problem is specific to Acronis True Image 2016, as the 2015-version worked just fine?

The message is not easy to interpret. If I understad i corretly you are attempting to backup a folder not a partition. If I get a cance I will see if I can replicate this behaviour.

May not be until Monday,

Correct. Like for example the following folders:

\\MyNAS\ImportantData\pictures
\\MyNAS\ImportantData\videos
\\MyNAS\ImportantData\documents

to Acronis Cloud.

So you are attempting backup to the Cloud, I overlooked that in your original post. I have had some issues with attempting to do the same thing. My issues with this are not the same as yours however. My issues have been with the pause function, dropping of connection, and shutdown of PC after task completion.

I have no answers for you problem. It sounds like the application is not able to establish the path to the folder designated for the backup task but I have no idea why that would be.

I suggest that you use the feedback option in the app to report your issue to Acronis. You will find this in the Help option on the left side of the GUI that looks like a book icon. Fully describe your issue and attach a system report which is chosen by default. You can also send attached files such as Windows Event logs. If you choose to send event logs save them as an xml file.

I think this is the best way to get your issue before those whom can really make a difference in the application and how it works.
