Acronis True Home Image 2010: Options & Wizards

Thread needs solution

Although I have used Acronis True Home Image 2009 to create weekly backups of my operating system, software, and data, I am still a bit of a newbie with regard to fully understanding the software. So I will ask a few more questions to increase my level of understanding and comfort.

I notice at the top of ATHI 2010 menu bar is Tools & Utilities | Options. Through the Options, I can change my backup and restore options. However, when I backup, the Wizard asks me once again to specify various options. When using the Wizard, I usually tweak the options slightly. That is, I will set high backup priority for the application, verification of files, and, often, high compression. When I used ATHI 2009, I found that whatever options I selected through Tools & Utilities | Options did not "stick" when I used the Backup Wizard. In other words, I had to repeat my selections and didn't find any benefit to using Tools & Utilities | Options.

My question is, what's the purpose or advantage of using ATHI 2010 menu bar's Tools & Utilities | Options?

Hello Kevin,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
The options available in Tools & Utilities are considered to be the default options, i.e. all tasks created without implementing the changes in the Backup Wizard will run with the specified in Tools & Utilities default settings.
If you want to change some options for a particular task, you can do this specifying the necessary items in the Backup Wizard.
In other words, you can set in Tools & Utilities the settings that will cover most of your needs, and after that you can vary them for some particular tasks if it is necessary.
If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.

Thank you Oleg for responding.

I understand from your description that setting options in the Tools & Utilities creates default settings. That is, if I were to click Finish after specifying the Archive location, these new Tools & Utilities default values would be used. If I go to the Optional Steps, are these new default values then reflected in the check boxes and radio buttons? For example, if I indicate that I want to Preserve File Security Settings, will the checkbox be selected for Preserve File Security Settings in the Backup Wizard? Or does the Backup Wizard always reflect the original program settings?

Last year, I had some severe troubles with ATIH 2009. That is why I am being so specific with my questions. I want to be absolutely and positively clear.

Again, thank you for responding.

 Hello Kevin,

Thank you for your response.

New task will inherit default options specified in Tools & Utilities. Whenever you create a new task, the appropriate boxes will be marked in the additional options in the Backup Wizard. But previously created task will not be affected, you can verify this by editing a task that you created prior changing the default options in Tools and Utilities.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.
