Catastrophic 7046 update fail

Thread needs solution

When I attempted to install the 7046 update on my licensed version of TI 2010, an error displayed: "Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot be continued...remove the existing version of this product".

Well, that's not supposed to happen. So, I attempted to remove the "previous version" and the uninstall failed, killing my current ATI setup. I ran the TrueImage Cleanup utility twice (after reboots) and continued to get the same error. Biting the bullet, I went through the Registry by hand and deleted anything related to TrueImage, Acronis, ATI (not to worry: I don't have any ATI graphics cards), all folders, files, and whatnots I could locate, rebooted, ran the cleanup again, rebooted and still get the bloody error that there is another version installed.

Anyone have any suggestions or clues, perhaps on an ultra-secret Registry key that the installation program is looking for that I overlooked? This is driving me nuts...

I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit, with an i7-965 and 12GBs of RAM. I know my way around the Registry, so don't hesitate with the suggestions.

Thanks!

Hello Ross,

Let me assist you.

First of all, please accept our profound apologies for the difficulties you've experienced.

In order to find out what exactly caused the issue I need some additional information from you. Could you please collect MS Installer log file and attach it to your reply to this thread?

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Thank you Ilya, but when attempting to run the BAT file I get this message: "This advertised application will not be installed because it might be unsafe. Contact your administrator to change the installation user interface option of the package to basic." From my understanding, that suggests the program is partially installed and it is being advertised as available for use. The thing is, where is the bloody thing partially installed at...?

Probably the best approach, since the uninstall is broken and the clean up tool is ineffective, is to give me a list of typical Registry keys (even a list of search terms or keywords, e.g., Acronis, ATI, IWannaDateYourSister) that I can use to manually search for and clean the Registry of installation detritus. Thanks!

Well, slap me silly: I added /qb to the BAT file (msiexec /qb /i AcronisTrueImage.msi /l*v "ATIH2010MSILog.log") and Acronis installed without a hitch. I'll have to remember that trick.

Attached is the log file. Thank you, Ilya.

Hello Ross,

Thank you for taking time to writing me back and reporting about the results.
I'm really glad that you have managed to fix the issue.

Please feel free to contact me again if you have any other questions concerning our products.

We are always at your service.

Thank you.

Ilya, you are welcome. I do, however, have the same issue with the PlusPack as originally reported above. I tried the same solution (extract the MSI, run a command line on it with the /qb and /i switches), but no joy. Running the MSI file directly brought up the error: "This advertised application will not be installed because it might be unsafe. Contact your administrator to change the installation user interface option of the package to basic."

I've researched that error, but am at a loss where to go with it...any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello Ross,

In that case I may recommend you to do the following:

  1. Collect MS Installer log file;
  2. Collect Windows System Information file;
  3. Submit a support request with the gathered data.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you, Ilya. I attempted to create the MS Installer log file per your directions, but none was produced--apparently because of the "This advertised application..." error was immediate. I reviewed the Event Viewer and there was no additional information beyond the "This advertised application..." error. Running "TrueImage2010PlusPack.7046_s_en.exe" produces the "Another version..." error originally reported; running "AcronisTrueImagePowerPack.msi" produces the "This advertised product..." error.

I suppose I can open a support request, but unless there's something to break the loop (e.g., why is the EXE reporting a previous version? Where/what Registry key exactly is it picking that up from?) I'm not sure it'd be worthwhile. Since the main program is now working, per above, I'm basically OK...
