Performance Impact of Non-Stop Backup

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I am wondering what the performance impact of turning on non-stop backup is. It would be nice to have access to all of the changes in my files in case something goes wrong, but it seems like this sort of backup scheme would incur a really high overhead (always having to check and backup any files that have changed every 5 minutes). Does anyone out there have any advice on whether or not it is worth it to turn this on and what performance impact it might have?

Thanks,

Justin

The performance hit is very much dependant on your computer and how much you want to put up with any noticable effects. Responses from users are variable so it is a case of try it and see. Most seem to notice a lag on startup for some moments and then the impact is hardly noticable if at all.

Like a lot of things with computers, it depends on your needs, machine and the way you like to work. What I might like and might work well for me may not be suitable for you. In other words, you're better off trying it for yourself. If you do like it and find it useful, great, but make sure you can indeed recover files from the backup that is produced. No sense in having false security.

Personally, I don't see any real compelling need for it. I have been around computers more than enough time to know that if you are doing some complex work it is a good idea to save the file at suitable intervals even if the application has an automatic backup feature. I also do "Save As" every few saves so I don't overwrite the last good backup with something I wish I hadn't done. If I am going to make changes to my system I make an image first. My power source is very reliable so I don't worry too much about unexpected power interruptions. If I were running an online business I would likely reconsider my requirements.

I would like a slider bar to be able to change the resource usage of the non-stop backup. I discovered this feature in AVG software and I now don't even know that the hard drive anti-virus scan is running in the background while using my pc. If such a feature were available in Acronis products it would help greatly I'm sure. I have yet to decide to buy and install this program as I am still waiting to see the feature set compell me.

Hello,

bin and Seekforever, thank you very much for the assistance.

Paul, thanks for the suggestion. I have forwarded it to the responsible department, so most likely this feature will be available in future versions/builds of Acronis True Image.

Please reply to this thread if you have any further questions.

Thank you.

Anyone know when they are going to release a fix for Non-Stop Backup? I've been waiting for months to get a fix. I posted in the forum several months ago about the high cpu use making my computer unusable. I would like a fix since it was the main reason I upgraded to ver 2010 and I'm not getting what I paid for. Right now, Nero Back It Up is doing a good job, but I would like to get what I was promised from Acronis. I have influence on many customer's buying decision, I used to suggest Acronis, now I tend to suggest Nero.

I have used Acronis for years and if they can not fix this issue in a more timely manor, then this may have been my last purchase from Acronis.

Hello Tim,

We are really sorry for the delays, our developers are still trying to fix the issue with the high CPU utilization. Once we have any news about the status of their work, we'll definitely let you know and shall update this thread.

Thank you.
