Deleting Backup Version?

Thread needs solution

In 2014 this was so easy, just view the update history, right click on one and delete.

How the heck do you do this in 2016???

Talk about over simplified interface, so many options have vanished.

just want to delete an old backup version from a drive backup.

Does this backup show in the GUI? If so click on the round circle with the down arrow on it and choose delete from the resulting menu. You should get the choice to delete just the backup task settings or the settings and the backup data ie. backup file.

That's only useful to delete the WHOLE backup data, I'm talking about individual versions of the backup. In 2014 you could select an old backup version and delete it, keeping newer backups.
I can manually delete the backup versions and just keep say the newest full backup, but ATI16 would then moan about a missing version, you then have to tell it to ignore that version.

Seems like a naff way of doing it compared to the old version... In 2014 you would have a timeline of all the full and incremental backups.
In 2016 you have the drop down list of versions but no way to delete individual ones.

Hope this makes sense!

You cannot delete individual backup versions with 2016. What you are doing, ie deleting manually then ignoring missing versions, is the only way to go.

Hi Pat L,

I have to agree with Mark Davies here.... That ''backup delete version'' option needs to be put back in, manually delete a backup version then manually tell Acronis to ignore the missing version??? Software is supposed to get better with newer versions not, go backwards.... Bad move there Acronis!

I tried deleting thw whole backup, and the "Deleting backup..." graphic pops up with the moving dots. The nothing happens. For hours. This is with a small (1GB) test backup. When I close the program, it stays on my taskbar, unresponsive. i have to use the Task Manager to kill it. If I then relaunch it, the ATI2016 does not launch, it appears in the tasks but there is no GUI. After I restart the computer, the backup is still listed, but when deleting it says the file is not there.

So I tried to delete only settings, and there are still files there for that backup on my device. Can those be safely removed? I tried "add an existing backup" from a different one which I had deleted the settings but not the files, using that menu uption. It did not add it back.

Basically, this cannot delete whole backups properly, the main program hangs, requiring task manager to kill it, it cannot restore availability of "settings only" deletions despite the files being on the media. Did you people even test this at all? I am incredibly frustrated. I had used Acronis in the past, but this is nothing like the previous product. The interface is very limited, and the functionality is absent, and quality is questionable. From what I can see, this is a broken product.

Try uninstalling, rebooting, deleting the unwanted backups manually and reinstall the product. Start new backup tasks in empty directories.

Thanks for the clarification.

Can't believe that's another feature gone in an UPDATED version of this software...

At this point, after having seen these problems, seen that there are no solutions forthcoming, and seeing that the software seems to be constantly regressing in terms of features performance and defects compared to previous versions, I am not just frustrated, but disappointed by not only the software but the company and its apparent disregard for the product and customer base. After reading a lot of review (good for the old, terrible for the new), reading posts on these forums and others (with frankly inadequate responses like the above "delete and reinstall" or "that's not possible" or "that is not a feature in the new version") I am rapidly approaching the opinion that my best way to get good backup software is to ask for a refund and buy something else. Its sad because all I am asking for is software that does what the old Acronis did, and which I liked.

edit: typos

How do you delete and reinstall after the 30 day warranty period is up? I thought that we could not download the install files after 30 day?

Gary,
Register the 64 character serial number with Acronis and then that number will always be available to your (if you forget),
and the registratin will enable you to download all the files you need for the versin which your recorded your serial for.
A registration of the serial is also necessary to qualify for the 30 free support from the first 30 days following purchase.
The registration is also necessay to qualify for any Acronis help needed if there is a recovery problem of which there is no time expiration period.

Check my signature link #9 below for illustrations.

To uninstall, use the standard Windows un-install; or restart the Acronis installation file and an uninstall option will be offered.
Or, if you have other uninstall progams, you can use those.

To re-install, download the files for the version you purchased from your account where you registered your serial number as per my example.

I have a slightly different problem. I have old backup tasks (with backup files) that I don't need anymore. As you can see in the screenshot, they have an exclamation point icon on them (but I can find no explanation of this anywhere in the online help). I can click on the "delete" option, True Image asks me to confirm, I click "yes" and nothing happens. I need to recover space on my external HDD and cannot see how to.

Any ideas? thanks, Jim

Have you tried deleting the backup files manually on the external drive? That seems to be the way to do it in this new version.

Mark,

This link is the method suggested by Acronis in their 2016 help instructions.

Saw that before, and it's a terrible way of having to just delete a backup version.

Agreed, the only other way is to delete manually via Windows Explorere and then run manual valdation and respond "ignore" to each error prompt of missing file.

I agree with what has been said. Having to stop your running system, reboot it from the rescue media, do the delete, and then reboot the system is ridiculous, to say the least. I simply take the dirty way and delete in explorer, accepting the complaints in Acronis. By the way, they do not always appear, strangely. I agree that this is an unneccesary regression from pas behaviour. Having been a customer ever since TI2009 I am now seriously considering making a shift.
