Backup will not start

Thread needs solution

We've been running tih 2015 since aug 2014 to backup 6 pcs to a wd mycloud ex2 nas loaded with (2) 3 tb hds running in jbod mode (not raid). The nas should have had 6 tb of space, but, started putting out 95% full messages when the system approached 3 tb of drive space. We swapped out the wd nas for a synology ds215j nas, with the same hds. I've got all the pcs configured to backup to the same nas in separate shared folders. All of the pcs can connect to the shared volume via windows explorer as well as through acronis tih.

On one of the pcs, we have two backup schemes - backup the c drive, back up the recovery drive. Both bu tasks configure with no hitches. When I start either backup task I immediately get a message that the backup task can not start - there is practically no delay between clicking to start the task and the popup window indicating the task can not start. There is no error code provided. This behavior does not exhibit on any of the other pcs.

I was having issues with atih not even starting up on this pc (could not find the window - it might have been off screen, not sure). I ended up uninstalling atih and reloading the latest update. I don't know if this has any bearing on the atih not being able to start any of the backup tasks.

Any constructive assistance would be appreciated.

On the computer not starting,

If were me, I would run the TI 2015 cleanup utility (signature link 4) which will do a thorough uninstall/cleanup.
Follow the text instruction withiin the cleanup instructions which involves minor registry editing.

Then, reinstall and create new tasks again.

Thank you for the advice. I somehow managed to get it running, don't know what did it, but, it runs now. However, a new situation developed on practically all of our computers that we were backing up with atih 2015 (6 pcs total). We were backing up to a WD Mycloud NAS. We replaced that NAS with a Synology NAS. Now after atih completes a backup task we get a message about connecting to the \\wdmycloud ..., which is no longer in the system. I removed all the backup tasks and made new backup tasks with the Synology NAS as the destination, yet, we keep getting the message that atih wants to connect to the wdmycloud nas.

I'm guessing there's some registry editing to be done, or deleting some database files????

You can goto the history file
C:\programdata\Acronis\TrueImageHome\database

On one machine,
delete the contents of this database folder.
You may need to do this in safemode in order to get the files released.
This may cause you to need to recreate the tasks.

Determine the results before you do more than one machine.

The cleanup I mentioned in the prior post would have gotten rid of the database folder--or should have anywayi.

Do you run any junk cleanup programs such as CCleaner, etc?

I did not run any cleanup programs. Did reinstall the latest update, which ended up being a "repair" installation. Perhaps that fixed the "no start of tasks" issue. I'm getting quite fluent at recreating the tasks, so, it's no big deal to recreate them (yet again) if I loose the tasks when I delete contents of the database folder.

I did rename the archives.xml file to archive.old, but, the jury is still out if that will fix the issue of acronis still wanting to access the non-existent nas. Some pcs have an error message (after a backup task was completed) that they did not have exclusive access to backup files - without mentioning which files atih could not access. Some pcs don't have that message.

Honestly, I'm hearing more and more folks leaning toward other backup products since acronis doesn't seem to take heart at correcting these database issues. That Easeus product is looking more and more appealing.

Using the task "clone settings" can help you recreate a complex task easily.
I always make sure each task has a unique name (none reused) and destination always point to a new sub-folder with no intermixing of tasks.

You can unchecking all boxes in the "Missed backup" section in settings of each backup.
I have attached a screenshot containing where the boxes are checked. The Backup Now or backup did not work.
Once I unchecked both boxes, it started immediately.
