Version chain starts over with full backup if a differential backup is missed

Thread needs solution

Hello - I set up a version chain backup scheme, to run daily at 8:00p. It works well enough, unless the laptop is not running, or connected to the external backup drive at that time.

Once I miss a differential backup, ATI starts over with a full backup the next time I boot up, regardless of where it was in the full/differential schedule.

Is there a setting I can use to make it stick to the 1 full / 5 diff backup scheme?

Thanks

There is no such setting, but this behavior is wrong. Does it happen when you use a regular differential backup chain?

Rather than use a default type scheme, I would suggest you use a "Custom/Differential" backup scheme
similar to my example GH-13 found at this link.

You can set the Full plus 5 differentials,
plus set the automatic cleanup to
"Store no more than 1 recent version chain"
if you want a rotating chain whereby each new Full deletes the prior full and 5 differentials.

Or, you can increase the 'store no more than (n) to whatever number of chains (Full + 5 diff) you wish to keep.

The chain must read "custom" to get your automatic cleanup.
