True Image Home 2009 Cloning crashes XP SP3

Thread needs solution

I have upgraded from the previous True Image version to True Image 2009 and cloning will not work.  My previous True Image versions cloned with no problems at all.  I have run a full chkdsk on the disk I want to clone to -- no problems.  I am running XP Service Pack 3 with latest updates.  I am trying to clone 125gb of data to a 150gb drive.  At first, every time I tried to clone my computer would reboot at some point in the process,  i.e., sometimes on the processing of the source disk and sometimes on the processing of the target.  I reformatted the target and now True Image has grayed out the disk and I can't select it as a target.

Every other program in 2009 appears to run flawlessly.

Thanks for any ideas to try.

Hello Richard,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

Temporarily detach any USB device that is plugged in. Perform the cloning with the USB device detached.

If you have an inbuilt card reader, then disable it through Windows Device Manager:

   1. Hit Win-R to get to the command prompt;

   2. Type in devmgmt.msc and hit Enter;

   3. In the Device Manager window locate your card reader (it probably starts with letters SD, MMC etc);

   4. Right-click on the card reader and select Disable.

Thank you both for your quick responses to my problem.  I tried disconnecting all USB cables, but I could not find the card reader in the device manager.  I then tried cloning again anyway, but it did not run.   Next, I booted from the rescue CD & cloning worked perfectly.

Thanks again for your help.
