TrueImage11Home--can't find my laptop
I have used Acronis True Image 11 Home on many of my laptops and desktops successfully.
However on my new HP Pavilion 14 AB 167us laptop I installed the Acronis software and get an error message--
"detected unsupported hard disk drives, does not support Windows dynamic drives..."
It doesn't show the drives from my laptop on the program's menu for backup. It only shows my external hard drive that I am sending the backup file to.
I have Windows 10 on this laptop. My desktop works very well with this program and it has Windows 10.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Acronis twice without success. Any ideas:

I was able to back up my Asus All in one desktop that has windows 10 but made an incremental backup of things since an April backup where I was using Windows 8. So maybe that backup didn't work either.

Yes I do, for specific limited operations under my own control and understanding, and I only use it for basic MBR OS partitions (are not Dynamic or GPT) ..BUT realize this v11 (v11.0.0.8101) version from 2008 is certainly Not intended nor recommended to work on Windows 10, period! (..even though it's true, a few Basic functions of it will; same is true for Windows 8.1)
Only the basic operations of an installed v11 will work right, but Do Not Try And Use The Mount Feature!!! etc!!! I also do not use Try & Decide or Scheduler, etc, etc. I Only use v11 to create images, but specifically use my True Image v2013 'boot disk' (not an installed program) to restore them - but all of this is for my own unique and understood special reasons, that please me, but are not intended for anyone otherwise.

Listen well to GroverH from Post 1 has the correct information as to the only versions of True Image which support Win 10 - using anything else is not supported, and importantly, ill advised. (unless you know what you are doing, but even at that - is only for limited functionality)

Thanks Rick and GroverH,
I will order either True Image 15 or 16. I read some poor reviews about 15. Should I pay the extra amount and go for the 16 edition.

You should download a trial of 2016 before purchasing it. The trial includes 30 days of standard support with Acronis technical support. Now would probably be a good time to look at alternative disk imaging programs.
Your new laptop has a GPT formatted disk, and Acronis doesn't have a product that fully supports GPT disks. 2016 provides the best support of GPT that Acronis has to offer, but in my opinion it isn't good enough. With 2016 only a disk mode recovery to the original disk will result in the partitions being placed in the correct order. A recovery to a new disk will always place the MSR partition first on the disk. There is no way to specify the location of this partition with True Image. The incorrect placement of this partition may cause issues booting the system after recovery and will break your OEM and Windows recovery utilities. This issue has existed for too many versions and Acronis doesn't seem to be interested in resolving it any time soon.

I truly understand your dilemma, and I feel the same way about the newer versions and won't use them - they don't make me happy, but, ymmv for sure. That's only a part of why I use the alternate older versions that I do though, the rest is the tech that I can make work to serve my needs.
I'm a heavy user of imaging and do a lot of software testings, and create/restore images and/or complete drives nearly a dozen times a week. I use what's right for me - everyone is different.
My sincerest hope and wish is that Acronis will make an updated version of the old v11 keeping the same GUI layouts, just make some of the tech current, but keeping it's complete simplicity without all the bells and whistles the newer versions have, but I'm realistic, it's not going to happen I know, so, I do what I do to make it all work for me.
edit:
I see Joey posted while I was making my post at the same time, and he brings up some very valuable points as well, so listen up.
That's all the very reason why all my installs are created with the known partition MBR layout, it gives me freedom from all these new fangled problems; and besides I do not need a partition greater than 2 TB anyway! etc, etc, and sport some 5 TB logical backup drives with no problems.

Ok, then I'm not going to order Acronis 15 or 16. Advise me how to use imaging software. I learned from your posts about GPT formatted disks which was all new to me.
Which imaging software might be easy for me to use. Acronis was very easy and I enjoyed having a backup of my desktops and laptops.
