Acronis® True Image Echo Server® (build 8,398)

Thread needs solution

After Acronis version 10 failed to backup at all with several errors daily, we were forced to down grade to Acronis® True Image Echo Server® (build 8,398),
but still getting errors,
latest
Failed to read data from the disk.
Failed to read from the sector 2,048 of the hard disk 3: Retry/Ignore/ignore All/
Acronis® True Image Echo Server® (build 8,398)

running on MSS server 2008, has completed a backup once to an external backup usb drive in the last 7 days with out errors.
the logs do not give any real information to work with, and are generic information so i am not sure where to go from here
The external drives are new 500 gig USB, they pass tests, checkdisk, you name it.
So I have no idea how to resolve thi sissue

Have you tried removing the software, reinstalling it and recreating your tasks? I know this advice is of absolutely no use, but someone from the Help Desk will be recommending you do this in the not-too-distant future! :-)

Sorry, I couldn't resist that. I've been struggling to get B&R10 to do what I want for over 3 weeks now (a reliable scheduled backup would be nice) so I really sympathise with your plight. Hope you are able to resolve things.

Christian, the error you have specified
Failed to read data from the disk.
Failed to read from the sector 2,048 of the hard disk 3: Retry/Ignore/ignore All/

points on the errors on the source drive you are backing up.

I would suggest you to try the following: 

  1. Try chkdsk /f /r (Start -> Run -> cmd) command on the machine in question
  2. Update snapapi drivers as mentioned in this article

Please check whether the issue persists. Should it be present, please gather the following information: 

  1. Screenshot of the issue
  2. Acronis Info

I have not had this issue with USB drives but I have with e-SATA drives.. I get this every time I swap drives (I have a rotation of 3 e-SATA disks which I change once a month.. I get this error with EVERY disk I change.. always the same error! The only way I can stop the error is to reboot the server!! then it's ok until the next changeover!

Thank you for your comment. We had some issues with disk rotation. It can be caused by several reasons, so we designed a KB article with the list of solution, feel free to test it and let us know the results.

Hallo,

i have the same Problem with a Windows Server 2008 R2 for Backup. This is a new installation and DC.

i probe to put the acronis user on the 2008R2 to the administator group, but this doesn't help

the other 2 Server (2003) works without problems, only the new installed 2008 R2 makes this Problem with sector 2048. The Microsoft VSS service will start and run, but it isn't possible to make a backup from this maschine.

The Acronis Build on all Servers is 10.0.11639

i hope anyone have a hint for fix this Problem.
