[SOLVED] Mounting ATIH 2016 TIB files takes very long time, ATIH 2015 TIB files mounted within seconds.

Thread needs solution

ATIH 2016 b5518

I save all my backups on a Windows network share (SMB), when I try to mount the backup it will hang at the stage "Assigning drive letters" but finally complete after a very very long time. This was not the case in early releases of ATIH 2016 or early versions.

I noticed that while the application states to assign drive letters indeed it seems to transfer whole tib file over the network.

This needs a fix, by implementing an adidtional status message or reverting the state it was before.
Previously it was a matter of seconds to mount a drive from a remotely stored TIB file.

Addition:

I have a 13 GB sized Acronis backup containing a disk backup Windows 7 made by ATIH 2015, this one is mounted within seconds as usual, but the ATIH 2016 containing a Windows 10 disk backup takes much longer to mount. This behaviour is reproducible.

Addition:

This is also reproducible when the file is stored locally, so it is not a network issue as I thought. It seems it really depends what is in the TIB file or which ATIH version it was created with.

All ATIH 2015 backups get mounted within seconds (containing MBR / UEFI full disk backups of Win7 or Win 8.x)

Hi Karl,
would it be possible to update your installation, create a new backup containing Windows 10 OS and re-test mounting behavior in both cases (backup file is located on local disk, backup file is located on network drive).
Thank you,

Yes I will do that

Hello,

I've done a new backup with b5586. This backup contains a Windows 10 full disk backup and will be mounted within seconds, so as expected, from a local disk AND via network (SMB).

On the other hand the mounting of backups created with previous versions are still very slow! So the issue seems only partially fixed.

p.s. I cannot say that the content does really matter, so also only data backups or Windows 8.x backups are affected.

Hello Anna I can now definitely tell that this problem affects ALL my backups (many) made with ATIH 2016 previous to b5586.
I will have a look what happens when a computer makes a fresh backup of an existing task and report back if it is even somehow releated to the task (XML etc).

Any news here Anna? Is there anything I can do?

no change in build 5620, all backups created with ATIH 2016 prior b5586 are still affected. :/ ATIH 2015 backups are not affected.

Dear Acronis, I will now escalate the problem.

Mounting drive letters of TIB Images over network takes more than 2 minutes. Now I can also reproduce this with backup files that were created with Acronis b5620

Even mounting a local TIB file takes about 25 seconds now (backup made with b5620).

I can't even see a way to mount .TIB files with ATIH 2016 installed. I swear in older versions there used to be an option in Windows Explorer when you right click the .tib file to mount it as read or read/write. Now I see no such option. Along with the horrid horrid new interface (can't even see the full filename of backups in the list), it feels like some things have taken a few steps backwards :-(

I've been an Acronis user since v9

When you right click the tib file you should see True Image. Point the mouse at True Image and you will see Mount and Validate options. Mount will mount the image in read mode. The read/write mount option has been removed in TI 2016.

Ah yes. I was right clicking in DOpus and True Image wasn't showing up. It does in Windows Explorer. It's a shame the Write option has been removed. Hopefully it'll come back soon.

I don't know how long it took to mount. I just clicked mount and went away to do a few things. When I came back a few minutes later, it had mounted.

Image was created in TIH 2015. Mounted now I have TIH 2016. OS is Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Does anyone know if NTFS for Windows 8/8.1/10 has any differences from NTFS for Windows 7? I always get Windows 7 saying Windows 8/8/1/10 volume file systems needs to be checked for consistency when mounting - even when I've turned fast boot off. And if I let it scan/repair then Win 8/8.1/10 has an issue with it when re-mounted there. Haven't seen anything official from MS on this topic. Is it these differences the reason the read/write option has been removed from TIH 2016?

on topic: this reported issue is not solved yet.

Karl, please see my response here.

Seems that 25 seconds is a normal mount time, and I get the same result in True Image 2015.

Thumbs up!

I think the problem is really evident for local mounting:

Mounting drive C of a Windows 7 Full Backup (13,5 GB) created with Acronis 2015 (27.04.2015) takes 5 seconds loading source Samsung SSD on my Windows 10 b10240
Mounting drive C of a Windows 10 Full Backup (16 GB) created with the latest Acronis 2016 (11.10.2015), takes 11 seconds loading from the same SSD, on my Windows 10 b10240

If you like I could upload both files for further investigation.

This issue is not reproducible anymore.
