restore from image to external hard drive???

Thread needs solution

restore from image to external hard drive??? This used to be so simple not anymore... for the life of me it won't do it it just want to restore the c:/ drive   I don't want to do that I want to take an image that I have and restore it to the external hard drive and then pop drive out and replace it...

Am I missing something?

I miss the old acronis!

You should (just like for older versions), put the target disk on the same connector as the source disk (the disk you took a backup from), boot on the Acronis recovery medium, and then perform the restore operation.

Can't copy image to new disk.  I have an Acronis image backup of a Win 8 laptop (made 3/31/16 with a trial version of True Image) that I now want to restore to a new disk.  I am experimenting with a trial version of Acronis Backup for PC 11.7 on a Win 10 system.  The Win 10 system is also for experimental purposes.  The problem is that the laptop is UEFI and the backup image is GPT but the experimental Win 10 system is BIOS.  In this situation, Acronis insists that it should convert the image to MBR since the system it is running on is BIOS.  But, of course, I don't want that because the new disk is intended for the UEFI laptop.  How do I tell Acronis not to mess with the image - just copy it to the disk the way it is?

Also, when I come to the "Recover data" screen I have the option to recover to "Physical Machine" or "New Virtual Machine".  It seems like there should be an option to recover to "New disk", or something like that also.

Am I missing something?  Thanks for any help.

Sorry to post to this chain.  I thought I was starting a new chain but apparently I don't know how to do that.
