Backup Jobs don't run as Scheduled Tasks (but run fine un-scheduled)
Hello,
My PC is Win7 Premium x64, installed with True Image Home 2010 build 7046 (had the same problem with build 6053).
On my PC I am logged in 24/7 as user account 'Christine & Thierry' which is a local administrator and had full rights on the local PC (and all remote shares). UAS is disabled on my Windows 7.
My Hard drives configuration is as follow:
C: 80Gb Intel SSD
U: 500Gb Hitachi SATA Drive
and a 500Gb iSci target mounted on C:\Workarea
The iScsi Target is located on a QNAP TS-419P NAS with the latest available firmware (from April 2010).
What I am trying to do is :
1) backup weekly the content of C:
2) backup daily the content of the mounted drive (500Gb iscsi)
The backups are to go on a different QNAP NAS; this one is a QNAP TS-210 NAS with the latest available firmware (from April 2010). This NAS is available as a permanently mapped drive on my PC (Y:) ; full administrator rights are given to all users on that NAS.
When I go in Backup, Disk Backup, Disk and Partition Backup, I can select either
1) Disk 1, NTFS (Unlabeled) C: (74.43G)
or
2) Dynamic and GPT Volumes, NTFS (Workarea) 499.9Gb
For the archive location I select 'Create a new backup archive' then type either Y:\C.tib or Y:\iscsi.tib for the backup location. (on the NAS then).
Backup Method is set to Full; everything else is left to default settings.
When I hit Proceed, the Backup starts and after a few minutes (for the C:) or hours (for the mount point) the task complete sucesfully.
I have activated email notification and these are the emails I get:
1) successfull C: Backup (28 minutes)
1 Information 08/05/2010 21:35:50 Operation C started.
2 Information 08/05/2010 21:36:01 Locking partition C:...
3 Information 08/05/2010 21:36:01 Create Full Backup Archive From: My Data To file: "Y:\C.tib" Compression: Normal
4 Information 08/05/2010 22:03:28 Operation has succeeded.
2) successfull Mountpoint Backup (2 hours 40 mins approx)
1 Information 08/05/2010 18:52:15 Operation iscsi started.
2 Information 08/05/2010 18:52:16 Analyzing partition '0-0'...
3 Information 08/05/2010 18:52:17 Analyzing partition '1-1'...
4 Information 08/05/2010 18:52:17 Analyzing partition 'C:'...

10 Information 08/05/2010 18:52:19 Pending operation 143 started: 'Creating volume image'.
11 Information 08/05/2010 18:52:20 Locking partition 4-0...
12 Information 08/05/2010 21:35:46 Operation has succeeded.
So this shows that Acronis True Image can:
-backup local disk & isci targets
-has enough rights to write file onto the remote NAS mapped as Y:
Now, the problem I have got is when I try to schedule either of these two backup jobs; the only thing different from above is that I specify a schedule (daily/weekly), a time and a username/password. For the username password, I specify the one of the currently looged in user (and local administrator as well).
Acronis quite rightly prefills the username for me: W7\Christine & Thierry
W7 is the name of my computer; so this is the correct username. I enter my password and click Next. The password is correct as it is verified by Acronis. If I enter a different password on purpose, Acronis tells me " The login information is not valid...."
So I have correct username/password (I have also tried with a local username which does NOT contains spaces but it is the exact same result).
Then at the scheduled date & time, the backup starts, stays for a few seconds on 'Creating Volume Image' then just bombs out with the following error:
(Same is true if I select the Scheduled Task and choose to Run it Now)
Then there is a popup saying Backup was successfully completed !!!!
The email result is as follow:
1) for the C: Backup:
1 Information 09/05/2010 01:00:01 Operation @date@ started.
2 Information 09/05/2010 01:00:01 Analyzing partition '0-0'...

So what am I doing wrong? why are the 'live' backups working but not the scheduled ones (using the same jobs) ?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

Hello, my problem is similar to that of Thierry (above) so hopefully an answer will be forthcoming.
I have True Image Home 2010, running Windows XP. I have also updated the scheduler per the article, just as Thierry has done.
I'm trying to do a weekly backup through the task scheduler, to my Western Digital external hard drive. I would like to have it do an incremental backup each Monday. However, each Monday I get a "failed" message, a red box on the calendar---and the backup doesn't get done. On the "Tasks Management" screen, it shows the backup as scheduled, but it just doesn't happen!
I have tried deleting the task, running through and setting up a new task, but the results are always the same---it doesn't do it. I have tried scheduling incremental backups, full backups, checking the various options to be sure I don't have something incompatible set...and as far as I know everything is fine. But it just doesn't backup via the scheduler.
After it fails, I can just go on and have it do an immediate backup, and everything goes through fine. I go to Windows Explorer and check the WD external drive, and the (initial) full backup is there, as are all of the subsequent incremental backups (with the proper dates in Properties). Thus, if I would simply just do immediate backups every Monday there would be no problem. But I'd like to have the scheduler do it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Do you have a username and password set? The scheduler will fail if you do not supply a username and password.

Hello thomasjk,
not sure if you are asking David or myself, but as far as I am concerned I do indeed provide username/password ; and these are validated as ok ; otherwise you cannot create the scheduled task.
Not sure if I inderstand correctly David, but your scheduled job doesn't even seems to start whereas mine actually starts but fails immediately; very strange issues we are having

Hello all,
thomasjk, thank you very much for your help.
Thierry, let me assist you. When you map a drive, it becomes mapped only under your Windows account. The Acronis product runs its tasks using the system account and so it is sometimes impossible to locate your mapped drive (especially when you are logged off). So, to fix the issue please use a full UNC path (e.g. \\server\share\) instead of a mapped drive.
You can also use a pre backup command to mount the mapped drive for an Acronis scheduled task:
- Download map.drive.txt;
- Follow instructions in Using Batch Files in Acronis True Image.
David, in your case I recommend you to gather AcronisInfo and submit a support request with the collected information.
Please reply to this thread if there will be any additional questions.
Thank you.

Hello Ilya and thank you so much for your prompt reply and positive answer; I used a UNC path and it worked straight away !
I feel stupid not having thought of it; I was not far though, I went as far as changing the username under which both Acronis NonStop Backup & Scheduler2 Service are running under; but then the scheduling failed altogether; completely missed the point that mapped drive are user context specific.
Backup running as we speak; thanks a lot; you made my day !
Cheers
Thierry

Hello again,
First off, thanks to thomasjk and Ilya for your replies.
Thierry, I guess we do have different problems because my scheduled backup doesn't fail after it starts---it doesn't seem to start.
Regarding the username and password issue for a scheduled backup, apparently the username is automatically filled by Acronis with the 'computer (owner) name?' Anyway, I didn't enter anything into the field, and it picked it up somewhere. I don't have an administrator password, so that field is blank.
I DID, however, clear out the username field and have Acronis 'repopulate' it with the owner name. I then had it attempt a scheduled backup today while I watched---and it went through. (All my previous attempts were scheduled to complete while I was away on Mondays.) So, I don't know if I accomplished something by clearing and repopulating the username field, if this was a one-time success, or what. But I'll wait and see what happens next time. Ilya, I will run the AcronisInfo and submit a support request if it fails again.
But at this moment, it seems to have worked, so again, thanks for your assistance.
Take care, Dave

Hello David,
Could be wrong but a blank password could actually be your problem; blank password are not liked by Windows OS; for example you cannot remotely connect to your machine, or map a drive with a blank password (to name a few). Could be worth trying to change your password and fill it in in Acronis.
If this works and you are unhappy with having an admin password (for ease of use); you could create a new administrator user (called backup for example) and assign it a password; then use this account/password within Acronis ?
Just my two cents; could be something very different; particularly that you are saying that it worked once for you today.
Good luck
