TI 2013 - Getting "Failed to open (initialize) the computer" when restoring a file

Thread needs solution

So, you backup your data diligently for 3 years and the one day you need to recover a file, TI fails.  This is as basic as it gets for back/recovery tools.  In any case, I searched around and found that this issue has been there for a while.  The KB article below was supposed to address the issue but it hasn't for me. I would be very grateful to anyone who can point me in the right direction.  Thank you.

Hi TI 2013 User,

since the issue is most likely related to the corrupted installation of SnapAPI module, I would recommend to run a repair installation. if it doesn't help, you can also  start recovery from a bootable media: http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATIH2013/#8493.html

Thank you,

Thanks Anna.  The KB article I referenced in my original post also describes the possibility of a corrupt SnapAPI and how to ago about fixing it (including the step you’ve mentioned).  Unfortunately, that didn’t work (nor did a full reinstallation of TI).  Recovery from a bootable media may help me recover the file but that doesn’t solve the issue  --I should be able to recover the fie directly from TI application.

Incidentally, I have TI 15 on another machine and I was able to point it to the target machine’s backups and restore the file, but there were all kinds of permission issues with the recovered file.

The bottom line, TI13 has a known bug without a clear fix.  I hope Acronis fulfills its commitment to quality.  Thank you.

BTW, I have 3 copies of TI13 and 3 copies for TI15.

Hi TI 2013 User,

in this case "known issue" means that in some cases SnapAPI module can get corrupted during/after installation on the particular environment and usually reinstallation of the driver helps. However, you should keep in mind, that True Image 2013 by Acronis wasn't tested with most recent operating system updates (as well as recent updates of popular antivirus and other applications using low-level drivers) because this program version is not developed anymore.

Please consider upgrading software on the machine in question to a newer program version.

Thank you,
