move computer data to new computer

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis True Image Home 2011, what is the best way to move all the data and programs from my 3yr old computer to my new computer.I did this once with pc mover and one of the programs didn't work.My friend had to come up and get it going, well fix it.I guess he had to find the correct paths of one program that is used for BILLING clients for medical. Do i clone it? but dosent that also move the os?.
tks

I also will be using it for back up's, on the new machine.

The key is whether you want to run the same OS on your new computer as the one you had on your OLD.
If you keep the same OS, you could try a Universal Restore.
If you change the OS, you will have to reinstall your programs. There is no tool that can reliably move programs across OS versions. Moving content is always easier.

Let us know what you case you want to run with.

I want to move content from an old laptop to a new laptop. [Different OSs - Windows XP Pro & Windows 7 Pro 64-bit]

I have True Image 2014 but I want True Image 2016 for 2 new laptops both with OS Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

1. How do I do the move?

2. Should I do the move first or purchase/upgrade?

3. My current Acronis back-up is currently on a WD My Book which I want to use again.  I have a second WD My Book.

Many thanks.
