MBR error1 and MBR error 3
Hi to all,
I have been using Acronis True Image on an XP machine for a number of years with no problem but today on attempted boot-up I received "MBR error 1 MBR error 3 insert floppy and press any key" message. This machine has worked perfectly for years so I'm shocked by the sudden loss of a vital part of my photo business.
If you can help I'd be grateful - here are a few facts:
* The computer is XP based and boots from SCSI
* It was upgraded from Windows 2000 many years ago, but is NOT dual boot
* It is regularly de-fragged by Perfect Disc 10
* I have checked the SCSI drive with the SCSI boot time utility and it has passed with no errors
* I have tried to 'fixmbr' from XP install disc but does not cure problem
* I have tried to restore the system image and MBR from Acronis rescue disc - does not cure problem
Many thanks in advance for your time and advice.
Paul Sampson.

Have you recently connected any new drive devices to the computer?
Have you verified that the BIOS still has the correct drive as the booting drive?

As a general point: The prob on your disk is probably captured in your backup, a reason to have more than one backup going back in time and one "old-timer" jsut for emergencies.
If you find that your most recent backup has captured a wonky disk, then backp up your data files, restore from an older image, then restore your data files.

Hello all,
Thank you for posting.
Paul,
Try going into Bios Setup, and if there is a Bios item that allows you to set the presence of a floppy drive to "None", choose that. Save the changes and try to boot into the system. If the operating system fails to boot, let us know the error that appears at the system startup.
Also try to connect the hard drive to another port or controller if it is possible.
Please let us know the results, we are looking forward to hearing back from you. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other questions do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.
