Please describe what actions you are taking in your attrmpt to open a file.
In most cases a double click on he file with your mouse will open the file. You should also be able to right click on the file and choose Open from the resulting menu.

Have done both of those you mentioned and files does not open.

You should check to see that Windows Explorer has the .tib file association set properly. The link below should help.

On my laptop I have 2016 and there is no .tib file association listed and I can open .tib backup files with windows explorer.
It is not listed on the list also for my HP Z800 workstation.

You can try a repair on the installation on your Z800. Go to Add Remove Programs and locate Acronis True Image in the list, select it by left mouse click then choose Uninstall, from the resulting menu choose Repair.

Try this, using notepad create a file and save it as a .tib file. Once saved double-click it, you should get the Can't Open dialog and you can select a program from a list of installed programs. Browse to select your desired application, add the description and check the always use the selected program. Now the extension is in the default programs list. In your scenario your default program for .tib files would be Windows Explorer. Do not choose Internet Explorer as that will not work.

I did all that and when I double click on file it does not open

I did not expect it to open. What should have occurred is that you should have gotten a message window popup that asked what application you would like to use to open the file.
Since that did not occur I think you might have some deep rooted problems with your Windows installation. I would suggest opening an admin command prompt and run the system file checker utility to scan for system file errors. That command is sfc /scannow (include the a space between the c and the /)

If I had deep rooted problems with windows, than why can I open backup files with 2015 and not 2016. Ran the program and no problems with the system.

Can you open other file types using Windows Explorer? If so then I would think that the problem is likely an issue with 2016. If not then I would suspect a possible virus or malware infestation.
You can check to see if the process TI uses to mount images is working. It runs several parts of the app. It is called trueimagetools.exe. If it is disabled or stopped this would be a problem. If it is not working other parts of the app would not work as well. The link below should be of some help here:

Anti-virus apps sometimes interfer with TI operation so that may be worth investigating as well.

I give up, everything on my laptop is the same on my z800. 2016 works on laptop 2015 works on the z800, but 2016 does not. Does not make sense.
I am unstalling 2016 and going back to 2015.

Look here for steps to take when an applcation hangs seems to be the issue.

I had the same trouble on 2 different sytems - one was Win7 x64 Ultimate, the other Win10 x64 Pro - both of which were upgrades from ATIH 2015. When double clicking a .TIB file, I could not explore them like was previously available. In some cases, I could right click on the .TIB file and "mount as a volume" and once mounted, I could "sometimes" explore the mounted .TIB that way.
In order to "fix" the issue, I used the original ATIH 2016 installer files to repair the base ATIH2016 installer, then the Acronis Add-On utilities in the same way, and just to be sure, I did the ATIH univeral restore installer again as well. After that, all seems to be well on both machines again.
If that doesn't work, I'd recommend using the original installer files to uninstall (instead of control panels add-remove programs) everything. Then run CCleaner a few times until it shows no issues in the registry, and reboot. After that, try installing ATIH2016, then the add-on utilities and then the Univeral Restore utility in that order. You should be good to go after that.
Should work the first install, but at least this seems to get the functionality back... unfortunately, you'll probably have to recreate your backup configurations again... something I have to do on a routine basis anyway. Acronis is awesome for full system images and restores, but the daily backup software still isn't 100% reliable for me... usually works well for a few months until something gets corrupted and then I have to recreate backups. Never have an issue doing an offline full system image though, which has become a weekly safeguard for me because my data is worth it.

I had this problem with an upgrade version donwloaded from the website "AcronisTrueImage2016_web". I downloaded a version "AcronisTrueImage2016_6569" and ran as a repair and the problem was solved (a tech rep sent the link to dowload the file). No further issues.
