Fails to get exclusive access to backup file during consolidation

Thread needs solution

Hi guys,

I have Acronis 2015 for PC for 5 computers.  I run it on a VMWare virtual machine and back up to a drive on the host machine which is shared.  I back two other PCs up to that same drive without problems.  I'm using incremental backup with 3 versions.

I had no problems with this virtual machine until about a month ago or so, when it had some network issues and wouldn't connect to the drive on the host.  Got that fixed, but since then, Acronis throws an error at the end of each backup about failing to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation.

I have deleted the backup (and backup files) and created a new one, same thing.

What I do notice is that the program runs extremely slow.  The backup runs quick, but going into the options for the backup, making changes and saving literally takes minutes and the program is completely unresponsive during that time.

This is what I get in the log:

29 Information 11/17/2015 2:49:04 PM Consolidate Backup Archive Location: "\\snow\ImageBackup\VM_Dev\Entire PC (VM-DEVMACHINE)_full_b12_s1_v1.tib" Destination: "\\snow\ImageBackup\VM_Dev\Entire PC (VM-DEVMACHINE)_full_b12_s1_v1_98E44455-363F-44B2-B499-B1921CA52F8B.tib"
30 Information 11/17/2015 2:49:04 PM Consolidate Backup Archive Location: "\\snow\ImageBackup\VM_Dev\Entire PC (VM-DEVMACHINE)_full_b12_s1_v1.tib" Destination: "\\snow\ImageBackup\VM_Dev\Entire PC (VM-DEVMACHINE)_full_b12_s1_v1_98E44455-363F-44B2-B499-B1921CA52F8B.tib"
31 True Image 11/17/2015 2:49:13 PM Failed to exclusively access a backup file during consolidation. Make sure the file is not opened in other applications.
32 True Image 11/17/2015 2:49:13 PM Failed to open data stream. Try to remove the backup from the list, add it again by clicking 'Browse for backup' and recreate the backup settings.

I don't really know what to try.  Right now, I'm uninstalling Acronis completely and see if a re-install will get it working again.  Any ideas would be very much appreciated:)

Hi all,

To my big surprise I found that my anti-virus program had somehow dropped the exclusion for the image backup drive!  It's quite possible it was responsible for this!  I completely removed Acronis (removed all registry entries I found as well as appdata files) and re-installed it and it has completed a backup without error:)

Best regards,

Arnor
