All about licensing. Need Acronis direct help.

Thread needs solution

I really screwed up in what I bought from Acronis.

Acronis 2014 is on my current computer, and on my wife's laptop. She recently bought a new laptop and we used Laplink Pro to move everything from the old to the new laptop. Acronis is one of the programs which was transfered, but it doesn't work on the new laptop.

So I got an email about upgrading to Acronis 2016 plus one extra license for $19.99. So I bought the bundle. What I forgot was we also bought a new Surface Pro 3 for traveling. So, I have my computer, my wife's laptop, and the Surface which I forgot about. So I have 2 licenses when I really need 3. So I simply bought a second Acronis bundle 2016 for $19.99 thinking I would just have one license I would not be using.

However it never occurred to me that the Surface never had any Acronis software on it to upgrade.

So, I have 4 licenses for Acronis 2016 of which I can only use 2.

I don't know if Acronis 2016 will install on my wife's new laptop with the version that was transfered from her old laptop. Maybe someone will know this and advise me.

But is there any way I can have a single full install of Acronis 2016 for the Surface? Or is there some way to validate one of the licenses I have on the Surface, since I have a license I won't need to use?

Let me know if someone can follow this comedy of screw-ups and advise me

Thanks,

Dave

Dear Dave, I think I can help you here even being not an official from Acronis.

Please logon to your acronis user webinterface www.acronis.com > Login and send me a screenshot of your currently registered products.

I guess I don't know how to send you a PM with the screen shot.

It would be so much simpler if someone from Acronis would reply.

You should be able to install TI 2016 to the laptop without having any previous version of TI installed. TI 2016 is activating automatically by logging into your Acronis account. It may ask for a previous serial number where you would enter the TI 2014 number.

You need to contact Acronis support directly.  Select the live chat, email, or phone(only available becuase of issues with chat) option. Their support staff rarely visits the forums.

If you check the forum this weekend, it will be flooded with spam.

Well, then I need to tell you about the installation of the first 2016 license on my current computer. I made the mistake of uninstalling Acronis 2014 from my computer and then doing a fresh install of 2016. I even used CCleaner to remove registry  entries. But thankfully I backed up the old registry first. Acronis 2016 went through most of the install process, but then at the last minute rolled back the installation and said there was an error and the installation failed. I even put in the 2014 key code, and it still failed in the exact same way. Even though there was a green check beside both key codes (both old and new) when I typed them in. As a last resort, I put the saved registry items back where they were, and 2016 installed right away. So it seems unlikely that the installation program checked my Acronis account.

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks very much. This might be the only avenue left.

David,

I see that you have been a member of this forum since 2010.  So I'm guessing that you have licenses for multiple previous versions going all the way back to True Image 2009 or 2010.  You can install the 2016 program using the upgrade key on the Surface without ever having a previous version installed on the Surface.  It will just require 2 keys, the 2016 upgrade key and a key from any of your previous versions of True Image that your not using anymore.  It doesn't matter if the old key was never used on the device your installing the new version.

Well, that sounds encouraging. I will give it a try.

I have had Acronis backup since version 8.

Thanks very much,

Dave

P.S. I hope I get this figured out soon. The math questions are getting hard. ;)

Well, I'm happy to report the ATI 2016 installations went quickly and smoothly on my wife's laptops. And then all I had to do was start the application on both machines, give my Acronis log-in information, and it was instantly ready to go. Totally like Mustang said it would. Kudos to you, Sir.

It was completely different than the experience with my original installation. No idea what was going on with that, or why.

Thanks to all you guys for all your help.

Glad you solved it. With the current licenses given your screenshot you can install ATIH 2016 on 4 different machines plus being able to install 2014 on a different one. So all in all you can have up to 5 active installations. ATIH has an improved license managing due to the fact it is tied to your Acronis account. If have more activations than licenses you will get prompted to move a license from an older, perhaps non existing computer, to the new one.

Unfortunately my request to have a license management in the web interface on the Acronis Account Webpage has not been implemented yet.
