Windows Shutdown Hang

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

Acronis True Image 2016 Build 5634 installs 4 Services in Services:

1. - Acronis Managed Machine Service Mini - I disabled it.

2. Acronis Nonstop Backup Service - I disabled it. Unnecessary for Local Backups.

3. Acronis Scheduler2 Service - I just changed Startup Type to Manual.

4. Acronis Sync Agent Service - I disabled it, as unnecessary for Local Backups.

5. Both Acronis Managed Machine Service Mini and Acronis Sync Agent Service have Windows Inbound Rules, which have been blocked, as only doing Local Backups.

6. In Inbound Rules and Outbound Rules, I created a rule labeled "Lockdown the Computer", in which before launching Acronis True Image, I enable, so, if I need to restore that image, all Connections are blocked, until I disable the Rule.

So while I see what you Posters are seeing, I experience no Hangups.

I clean installed TI2016 yesterday onto a clean W10 install and am now seeing this problem.

Off the wall question... all of you that are seeing this problem, did you use Acronis to restore an image, and that it was following that that the problem started ? and/or have you set any file exclusions up ? I ask that because I did not see this issue yesterday at all, and yet today it is ever present. I have been using Acronis to restore images that made while doing the super clean W10 install.

Don't know about the others, but I didn't restore any images, and I had removed most of the file exclusions.  I also installed the same version onto 6 essentially identical PCs on the same subnet, and only 1 had this problem.  It was still gone when I un-installed TI a few days ago due to other issues.

Thanks for the reply. I was just fishing for information but  events have moved on and another very serious issue has appeared for me which I will have to start a new thread for/and/or contact support.

I can not now ADD any backups to the list for restore purposes. I can select them, but as soon as I click 'add' the window closes and nothing happens. The only backup that shows is the one last created.

I have been using True Image since about 2009. I am currently on TI 2016 build 6027 on a Windows 7 Pro PC. Upon Windows shutdown, I periodically get the screen with only the messaage about True Image shutting down services. I forget the exact wording. I twice left the computer like that overnight. 10 hours later and it still was hung at that message. I had to do a hard power down which thankfully did not appear to do any damage SO FAR. I have a scheduled daily backup but I got the configured email saying it completed hours before I tried to shut down Windows. I am very frustrated since TI 2015 seldom had this issue but 2016 has it often. I am now afraid to upgrade my other PC from TI 2015 to TI 2016. This makes my 3 pack purchase useless and I may have to downgrade my PC back to 2015. I submitted this info plus a System Report to Acronis via the feedback form in the app. I know they may not reply (other than the auto confirmation) so I am trying to decide what to do.

These and many other issues with TI2016 seem to have no easily verifiable cause and (I'm guessing based on this) no immediate likelyhood of a solution. These seem deep rooted issues within the very core of the product to me.

Unfortunately my advice would be to push for a refund as the product is not 'fit for purpose'. I went through Cleverbridge for my refund and it was dealt with professionally and courteously.

Have a look at this thread:

Read with fascination the problems with shut down on 2016. My support ran out before I saw this kind of problem. I think it is due to insufficent free space on my remote hard disk. The symptoms are: Acronis window shows backup is running but nothing is happening. When I hit the "Stop" button it greys the button out but does nothing else. It still acts as if it is doing a backup. When I log off the computer it says Aconis is running and I have to hit the"Force" button and then close it. On startup theAcronis window then shows "backup terminated by user". This is the only way I can get it to stop. I have about  300 GB left on my remote hard disk but no message like "insufficent space" or such like.  I think I am going to junk it on both computers. Any suggestions? Am turned off by Dell's hard sell but at least it might work. Right now I have  backuped  my Libraries through straight copies. Can always reinstall programs. Anybody have these same symtoms?

D Cubed,

Have you updated TI 2016 to the latest version (6569)?  If not you should as the shutdown issue has been fixed in this release.

Build 6569 solved most of the shutdown and other issues I had, as well as a couple of things on my wish list.
