Clone or restore

Thread needs solution

My lap top hard drive is going. I have a new "bare drive" coming. Do I re-create my present system/drive using the recovery media and restoring my full back up or do I clone installing new drive in lap top and using usb connection to old drive and booting from recovery media

The reason I am asking is that the old HD has bad sectors (ran CHDSK /R /F)...the backup was done before it became unstable

Thanks

Since your present drive has bad sectors a clone of that drive could bring corrupted data to the new drive.  It would be best to restore your image made prior to this issue.

I hope your replacement drive is an SSD...they are worth the few extra $$.

Depending on how long ago you made the "good" backup, you may want to try a files backup of your libraries (Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos) and any other folders where you store personal data.

Then after you have completed the full system restore, you could then mount the files .tib file and copy all files with a date/time stamp newer than the "good" backup using windows explorer.

Hope this helps.
