Recovery disc TI2010 build 7046 froze computer

Thread needs solution

I have true image 2009 which has been working fine on window xp on another computer I have.
But I have been testing 2010 build 7046 before I bought it as I have Windows 7 X64 and I have seen there a lot of problems being talked about around the internet.
I have managed to create an image of two of my drives in windows and verified them to be ok.

I then booted from the back up disk and this is where the problems start every time I try to verify the image part way through the computer will lock up, so I have to restart, this has done this a few times now. I thought it might just be the linux disc not liking my hardware of my new pc as it’s an new Asus Intel p7p55d deluxe mother board 4Gb memory, and because the trial does not allow me to create a bartpe start up disk I borrowed it from a friend to see if that helped at all. This disc was also build 7046 as well. But this also froze my computer when I verified the image and after a reboot also while I created an image twice while using the recovery disc.

Anyone have any ideas as I have liked true image 2009 and would like to keep buying the product with 2010 for Win 7 but I need to be able to trust this product when it comes down to the crunch and at the moment I do NOT.

Hello Joe,

Let me assist you.

Most likely, standard bootable media doesn't have necessary driver for your hardware or some devices detected incorrectly. The other possible reason is that some of your memory modules are corrupted.

So I may suggest you the following: first of all please check your PC's memory using memtest utility:

  1. Download the memtest utility:
  2. Unpack the downloaded archive;

  3. Burn the ISO file to a CD (see Burning an ISO Image);

    (!) Please make sure you burn the file as an Image to have the CD bootable;

  4. After that boot your machine from the media and memtest will start automatically.

If the memory module is faulty there will appear an error count in the Errors column.

The longer you run memtest, the better. If you can run memtest overnight without errors then you can be sure that your RAM functions correctly.

Additionally, I've sent you a Private Message with a download link to the special bootable media that has several boot parameters that may help you to overcome the issue.

Please reply to this thread if you have any further questions.

Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Ilya

I will try memtest and see if it comes up with anything

You seem to have forgot to send this as I have no messages could I have this please to try out.

Update. I have ran the computer overnight and part of the next day 22 Hrs, 33 Passes on mem test and it has passed with NO errors so its good that mem is ok

Now I just need to try that special bootable media that has several boot parameters if you could please PM me the link

Hello Joe,

Sorry for the delay with the response, I've sent you a Private Message with a download link.

Please reply to this thread or to my PM if the issue still persists, I'll be glad to assist you further.

Thank you.

Ilya

Thank you for the download link I tested the image and I thought things where going well as my old image verified and it allowed me to then create an new image but this is where thing started going wrong, the image would not verifie with "fail to read secter 28.453.593 of hard drive 2 text linex error common direct failed (0x5900001) then after I started it again the above info but 28.478.297.

I then booted into window and did a full checkdisc on that backup drive including scan for bad sectors and fix system file errors and then rebooted to the recovery disc and tried it again and this time the program crashed so I rebooted and I then tired saving another image to disk and that froze part way through so I guess it feel about the same as the last disc image as that was hit and miss.

Also it takes a fair while to complete an image when it manages it. I have also enclosed an acronis report file if needed.

Regards

Joe

Hello Joe,

Thank you for the provided Acronis report, indeed, there are no errors on your hard drives.

As for the bootable disc crash: could you please try to try the following workaround:

  • Boot the computer from Acronis True Image bootable rescue disc (Full version);
  • Press F11 key after the "Starting Acronis Loader..." and you get to the selection screen of the program;
  • After you get the "Linux Kernel Settings" prompt, please add "acpi=off noapic" parameter (without quotes) to the end of the Linux kernel command line (so it will be "quiet acpi=off noapic")
  • Click OK button.

If the software still crashes, please gather Acronis Linux Report along with Windows System Information file and submit a support request with the collected diagnostic information.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Thanks Ilya for you reply and advice

I tried the acpi=off noapic and while I feel it makes it a little more stable I find that in the end if I verify enough images or create images it will freeze . (Do not trust it to restore an image! So I have not tried this)

I have submited the requested files to support and will see what they have to say, and I hope they can come up with a solution that will work for me as if not I will have to try another program as I need to back up my system.

Regards Joe

Hi , I had a very quick reply for tec support but I can't say that I have very happy with there reply as they seem to be saying to me its not important to test the recovery disk and to just use the windows interface and they do not seem to worry at all about the crashe/freezes in the recovery program, which I think is the most important part of the program in an emergency

After some great advice from the forum support staff!!!! The people from technical support e mail just seems to be trying to get rid of me.

But I am using the trial of True image 2010 as I said in the support e mail I send whic does not have a serial number and also gave reference to the forum topic which also said I was using the trial

Well from what I have read on the forum and what are in the instructions of true image on pdf (page 27, 4.1.1) it recommends to make sure images are tested from the recovery disk which is more important that testing in windows as these use different drivers (plus I tend to do all my backup/images and restores from the recovery disc and not windows, strange you might think but thats the way I like it.

Should I not expect to be able to use a recovery disk that will work all the time without crashing/freezing or is this just not important!!?

Hello Joe!

Thank you for keeping us posted!

I have carefully checked your case and can see that in the very next message you were provided with the instruction regarding how to proceed with investigation as well as with links to new bootable media and User's Guide. Could you please kindly check whether you received this message?

I sincerely apologise for the misunderstanding caused. Please keep us posted, if possible.

Thank you!

Thank you Yana

sorry I had not noticed the other e mail from tec email support and I thought that they finished a 6PM CET so I thought I would not have another reply untill tomorrow but I guess you people seem to be very hot at the moment at getting you support sent out and quick. Well done!!

Thanks and I will keep you posted as the new bootable media did not work .

regards

Not having much luck so far and I have tried a few new bootable media iso's that Tec support have been giving me.

They did send me an update to snapapi.526.msi today which I have been asked to try , but I am not sure if this will makes any differance to the boot disc as I thought this was just the driver that was used to image in windows .......................does anyone know????
As if it just affects windows it will NOT help me at all with my problem with the rescue boot disc :o(

Still no fully working boot disc which does not freeze after a while of use, So that means no working backup image I feel that I am going round in circles with e mail technical support , all I want is a working program that will cold image my system. I even made the mistake of buying Acronic true image 2010 (from using the trial) on a special offer hoping my problem would be fixed soon!

If you have the Plus Pack, you could try a WinPE ISO build bootable media and see if that works.

Gary

Sorry for the late reply , I have been working for weeks now with tech support who at the start where not that helpful and keepet allowing me to keep on testing the same iso images and getting no where, but after talking to a tier 2 support person they have come through in the end and yes it looks like the WINPE ISO is the only bootable recovery cd that works for my system.

And now I just have to get WINPE be able to talk to a xp home machine through networking without is asking for passwords

Thanks for your comment
