TI 10 - XP, C partition Image

Thread needs solution

System:
XP Pro, SP3
Acronis True Image 10, Build 4942

Hi
Yesturday I made an image of my C: Partition using the "backup" task > "My Computer", from the internal HDD over to an external HDD.
This task says it creates an image, which I assume includes the operating system, boot record and MBR.

When I activated this task I was expecting Windows to re-boot but it didn't, the task was completed successfully, the last time I carried out this task about 6mths ago I was sure that Windows rebooted.

Will this created image of my C: partition be bootable if mounting required in the future?

True Image can create an image file while Windows is running, without requiring a reboot. The image should be bootable if it is restored to your internal HDD in the future, but there is only one way to find out for certain. If you have a spare hard disk, disconnect your main HDD and install the spare in its place. Boot the PC from the Acronis Recovery CD and restore the image file from the external disk to the spare internal disk. When finished, reboot the PC and verify that Windows boots normally. If successful this demonstrates that the image recovery process works as advertised. Remove the spare disk and reinstall the main HDD to return to normal operation.

If you have not yet done so, create an Acronis Recovery CD from the Bootable Media Builder application on the Tools menu.

Making a backup image within windows does not require a reboot. If you backed up the entire disk, by checking Disk 1 then the image includes OS, MBR and boot record. You can restore the image to your internal hard drive if the need arises. It will produce a bootable disk. If you begin a restore in windows it will reboot into the Linux recovery environment. Its highly recommended that you perform restores suing the TI recovery CD.

Ok thanks Mark

I don't currently have a 2nd spare HDD to test and practice with but is on a list to do, at some stage.

I made a bootable rescue media disc after installing the Acronis software originally, which has one folder called "Recovery Manager" 16.3MB in size.

I had trouble re-locating my thread and had to do a search using my nickname, this forum format is difficult to navigate over time, there seems to be no logical order in the way the threads and posts come up on the system

You should be able to access your threads by clicking on the My Forum topics link on the left.

Thanks MudCrab
I have looked and looked but for the life of me I cannot see this "MY FORUM TOPICS" link

Instead, through a bit of mouse clicking, I went to "My Account" > "Created Forum Topics" and there it was.
Cheers.
: )
This is the forum format I am used to, which has an active left column and a 30 second refresh for real time chat or topic discussion.

Sorry about that. Acronis used to have the link on the left (just under My Account). When they removed it (I have no idea why), I modified my forum helper program to add it back. I forgot it wasn't standard. It would link to the same place your account does, but you don't have to go there first.
