Cleanup Task doesn't work
Hello to all
I use ABR 2010.... With the Version 2009 ATI i had no problems. I'm saving the backups on a external Synology HDD over Ethernet every week. The cleanup tool is configured that it should delet all files older than 6days in the backup-directory.
But now when the backup job is running, the CleanUp doesn't work. I tested it to cleanup before and after the backup job. It doesn't matter. The Job can't delet old files in a directory (No Error appears in the log).
Tested on several servers (w2k & w2k3)
Thx for help
regards
alex

We have been using BR10 for SBS for about 2 weeks now.
The first week, the backup succeeded just once (manually), after that it failed automatically due to VSS errors, which I had to correct by adding the registry entry suggested in the Acronis forum, to force it to use Windows VSS instead of it's own. After that, the backup now runs nightly, but another strange thing has happened and it's excatly what is described here.
We are running a 10 day incremental backup that fails to stop at day 10. We have 2 x Day 1 archives and now day11, and Day12 instead of Day2, Day3 etc. Not one previous backup files are being deleted.
Although a cleanup task has been set up, the task failed with an error and now, the disk is filling up due to Acronis adding more files.
At the current rates, our 1TB external drive will fill up unless you intervene for us.
thanks

Build 10.0.11639
we are running a simple 10 day incremental backup.
A number of confusing issues:
1. According to the attached log, the cleanup is re-trying repeatedly after failing to open an archive
The current retry has been running for 18 hours and has 2 to go (88% complete). Under status it reports 'warning'.
2. The incremental backup tried to use the day 9 file 2 days in a row?
Why would it do that?
3. Archive naming issues:
The first backup run created archives using a naming scheme myserver_yyyy_m_d_hh_mm_ss_578D1-10
After the 10th day cleanup failed, I just noticed Acronis is now using only yyyy_m_d_hh_mm_ss_578D1-10 ie no server name in the archive?
4. Failing to delete old archives?
Instead of consolidating the backup, Acronis is starting all over again with new file names. Pretty soon my disk will be filled up unless you can tell me how to prevent that.
The log is attached, I've changed user and server names for security
Hope you can help.
thanks

Hello all,
Thank you for your posts and I want to thank you for helping out.
kcionline,
At the moment it is not clear why this issue occurs and we are currently investigating it. To be able to resolve this issue, can you please submit a support request with the following information:
1. AcronisInfo report.
2. Windows Event Logs, please clean them up before reproducing this issue, so that we can navigate in the logs.
3. If the clean up task or validation task get stuck, please collect a user dump.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.

OK this is a first - now it's failing to read sectors...?!!
This is on a primary server.
Is this software a Beta version?
Why should a simple 10 day backup cycle fail on the cleanup?
Why on the 10th day is your software attempting to re-build the entire archive archives from scratch?

I found a note on your forum referring to sector read errors that suggests running chckdsk /r to correct the problem.
I'm told that running this on a RAID 5 setup like our SBS 2003 primary server, would be fatal!
Is that true?

Hello kcionline,
Thank you for responding.
I am terribly sorry for the inconvenience, but the best way to resolve the clean up issue is to contact our support directly.
As for the failed to read from sector error message, running chkdsk /r is not fatal. However, to verify that the backup fails due to errors on the hard drive, you can create the Acronis Report and check if there are errors on the disk.
Let me know if you have any other questions please.
Thank you.
