Unable to restore RAID 10 array from backup image

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image Home 10.0 and am attempting to upgrade my RAID 10 array from (4) 500 GB SATA drives to (4) 1TB SATA drives. The machine is a Windows XP64 computer using an onboard Intel ESB2 RAID controller. I ran a complete backup image of the C: drive then replaced all the hard drives. I have tried two different methods to restore the drive onto the new drives, but neither has been successful. The two methods and their results:

1) If I first create the RAID array in the Intel Matrix Storage Manager start-up screen then try to restore, Acronis True Image does not see the hard drives. I would expect it to see them as a single drive.

2) Next I tried beginning the Windows install and continuing through loading the Intel RAID drivers and creating a C: partition. I then exited the install and tried to restore to the unformatted c: partition. Starting True Image from a rescue disk, the restored hard drive page showed all four RAID array hard drives as well as the external hard drive with the image. Of the four RAID array hard drives, Disk 1 displayed with a C: partition, Disk 2 with a D: partition, and Disks 3 and 4 as Unallocated. If I select to restore to the C: partition, True Image apparently restores to the single disk which it thinks contains C:. At boot, after BIOS loads, I see a "Disk read error" message, and the computer is unable to load windows.

Any ideas? What is the correct procedure? I would think that there would be a restore method that asks for the Intel RAID drivers to be loaded, but this never seems to be an option. I appreciate any help.

Hello David,

Thank you for using

Acronis Products

Please download ISO image from your account under Registered Products and create Acronis bootable disc using third-party software. ISO image is based on different loader which has more embedded drivers, it will certainly solve the issue you experience.

If the issue persists I would recommend you create BartPE bootable disc using Acronis BartPE plug-in, you can download plugin from your account.  If some drivers are not recognized by Acronis True Image you may use BartPE bootable disc. It is possible to add any storage drivers at startup in the same manner as when installing Windows on the hard drive (by pressing F6 and inserting diskette with drivers).

To create BartPE bootable disc with the Acronis True Image plug-in you should download PE builder from the following link

Thanks for your response, Dmitry.  I did not see where to download an ISO image from my account.  The only downloads I see are the entire installation executable.  As an alternative, since I also have True Image 11, I used that disk to boot, but the results were the same -- it sees the RAID array as four drives -- one with C:, one with D:, and two that are unallocated.  There is actually a single partition, C:, on the four drives in RAID 0+1 configuration.  I even reloaded Windows XP x64 on the partition, so the partition itself is fine, True Image just can't see it.  I tried the BartPE solution, but that is only available for 32 bit systems.  Other ideas?

David:

If you have a 32-bit installation of Windows XP on another computer, use it to build BartPE. Don't forget to include the 32-bit version of your RAID driver in the BartPE build. Your 64-bit PC will boot correctly from a 32-bit BartPE disk.

A further issue is that the image file that you are trying to restore must contain the proper 64-bit RAID driver, but from your description it sounds like it already does.

Hello David,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

I have sent you ISO image of Acronis bootable disc based on different loader please check it also.

Thank you both for your responses.  Dmitry, the disc you sent worked fine.  It immediately recognized the four disks as a single RAID array and I was able to restore normally.  Thank-you very much for your help.

Hello Dmtry,
I have exactly the same problem to restore an image on RAID.
Here is my configuration:
Windows Server 2008 64 bits R1
RAID1 (3 disks) with controller Intel Matrix
Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server is loaded during Windows installation

The problem is when trying to restore, Acronis does not see any hard drives.

I think the ISO image that you told on previous post could resolve my case but unable to find it on my Registered Products. Could you show me where I can download it?

Thanks for your helps.

Hello Nader,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.

I have sent you ISO image of Acronis True Image Echo Enterprise Server based on ISOLinux loader via PM. ISOLinux image has better hardware support and it will certainly solve the issue with RAID recognition.

You can find more information on how to burn an ISO image to a CD at:

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
