Acronis TI Home 2016, Windows 10; Schedule STOPPED working

Thread needs solution

I purchaed and installed 5 licenses of TI Home 2016, on 5 Windows 10 PCs. All 5 are set up the same.  The schedule in Acronis stopped working for 3 of the 5 PCs.

Pretty vague scenario - maybe you turned off the computers so they haven't have a chance to run :).

I'm sure it's nothing like that, but you see the point.  Any additional info you can provide would be helpful.

What is your schedule set to? Can you upload a couple of screenshots?  Do you have it configured to run if the schedule is missed - if not and the computer is asleep or off at the scheduled time, it's not going to backup outside of the schedule.  Maybe there is an OS or hardware issue - have you checked the Windows Logs for any signs of trouble when the scheduled backup are set to run?  Can you manually kick off the backup that was set on a schedule, and if so, does it complete that way?  When was the last time the systems were rebooted - pending patches/updates may stop background services like VSS which may be needed by Acronis to run - if a reboot hasn't been completed, the background services may need that to start back up properly.

Some users in other backup software forums report that Windows Volume Shadow Service (VSS) contends with backup software if you have System Protection turned on.  Try turning it off and seeing if the scheduled job then runs.

Bobbo,

Point taken. So here goes.

I have 24 desktop PCs using Acronis TIH2012 (Windows 7 Pro) and rescently switched 5 PCs to Acronis TIH2016 (Windows 10 Pro).

The TIH2012 backup (image) is schedule through Windows Task Scheduler to run during each night and creates a full backup of the C: drive. Acronis is setup to keep no more than 2 backups. These backups are saved to a second internal HDD (HDD dedicated to backups). Run with highest privlidges, computers are never turned off, etc. These have been working fine for 4 years.

The problem is in some of the TIH2016/Windows 10 PCs. With TIH2016, I could not find a way to schedule with Windows Task Scheduler, so I used the Acronis scheduling feature. Other that Windows 10, that is the only change/difference between the 2 scenarios.

Regarding your question of running manually; Manual "Backup Now" works successfully. In addition to that, all 5 of the TIH2016/Windows 10 have successfully backed up with the TIH schedule for a few weeks. Then just stopped working a few days ago. AND last night 2 of the 3 problem PCs, backed up. Go figure....

Your suggestions on patches/updates and VSS are helpful. I'm going to leave things alone for a few days and see what happens.

Are the 5 computers running Win 10/ATI 2016 old computers that were running Win 7 Pro/ATI 2012, that you did the upgrading?  There have been a lot of issues when upgrading to Win 10 and upgrading to ATI 2016.  The recommended sequence is to fully uninstall ATI 2012, perform the upgrade to Win 10, then once Win 10 is stable and functioning reliably, then perform the ATI 2016 install.  I mention this because it appears you have 20 more computers to do.

FtrPilot,

We are still testing Windows 10 for compatibility issues. Eventually, we hope to move all to Windows 10.

Here is my process;

Start with existing computers running Windows 7 Pro and ATI2012.

Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

Part of the Windows 10 upgrade process, un-installs ATI2012 (Microsoft determined not compatible).

Install new license of ATI2016.

In the future, I'll uninstall ATI2012 myself and see if that has any influence.

Thanks,

DanO

Dan-o,

Here's a link that covers uninstall of ATI 2015, including a cleanup utility.

Acronis have not published anything similar for 2016, however, I have read elsewhere that the same process applies to 2016 and the cleanup utility also works for 2016.
