Accessing SMB share using Acronis True Image ENT 9.5.8115
Hi,
When booting a machine with bootable disk of Acronis True Image ENT 9.5.8115,
I'm trying to access SMB share on a Linux machine, but the prompt for user&password never comes up, which will state that it can reach the SMB share.
Accessing windows share works great of course.
What may cause this kind of the problem?
Is it related to the version of Acronis i'm using?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi,
I downloaded the latest True image burned the bootable media and booting the machine with it.
The NICs are recognized just fine, i get the ip but yet it can't recognize the SMB share.
Any other windows share is accessible for the Acronis.
Besides the SMB share is accessible through regular windows machines on the same subnet.
Anything that i'm missing here?

Hello lebron,
There can be several reasons why you are not able to locate the desired network share when booted from a standalone version of Acronis True Image:
- A DHCP Server may not be running in the network.
- Network setting may not be set correctly in your copy of the standalone version of Acronis True Image.
- The problem can relate to the network card of the machine or to the card driver shipped with Acronis True Image.
If at least one computer is visible in Computers near me on the Image Archive Selection screen, then try specifying the full UNC path to the desired computer in the "File name" edit box, e.g. \\server\share.
If no computers are visible on the network, but the Computers near me icon is found under My Computer, then please ensure that a DHCP server is running on your network. If you do not use a DHCP server, then please enable network connection, specify network settings manually in the window, available at Tools -> Options -> Network adapters.
Please reply to this thread if the issue still persists, we'll be glad to assist you further.
Thank you.

I have a DHCP server running on the network, and as i mentioned before:
The NICs are recognized by the Acrons, and i get a valid ip address in the Acronis boot.
I tried to type the full path but still no credentials' window pops up after then which means the share is still no recognized.
Issue still persist.
Thanks for trying to help.

Hello Bary,
In your case I need some additional information to provide you with a solution.
Please gather the following information on your Linux machine where you have configured SMB share and attach it to your reply to this thread:
- smb.conf file from /etc/samba directory;
- Acronis Linux Report (please see this KB article for the details)
I'm looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience.
Thank you.

Hi Ilya,
I attached the 3 files which i had generated from the Bootable media(Version 13 - TrueImage_7046__Demo_english_acroldr.iso)
About the smb.conf, i know where and how to find it but i need to consult the Unix Admin first,
As maybe there are some stuff there he wouldn't like to expose.
Thanks.

Hello Bary,
Unfortunately, we need Linux System report from the Linux machine:
To create the Linux report, please do the following:
- Download the system information gathering script from http://download.acronis.com/support/sysinfo.tar
- Unpack the archive: # tar xvf sysinfo.tar
- Make the script executable: # chmod +x sysinfo
- Run the executable: # ./sysinfo
- After that, the report file will be saved to the /var/lib/Acronis/sysinfo/ directory.
Thank you.

Apparently the file server is not a Linux one but Solaris10 x86.
Could it be the reason?
Do you still need the smb file?

We have found a workaround to this issue!
Even though the Acronis(via the bootable media of course) receives an ip from the DHCP, together with the suffixes,
it is not member of the domain, which may explain this kind of behavior.
So we tried to access it via ftp (ftp:// \ip address\ ) and the pop up windows for the user&password came up then.
i don't know if it's a workaround regarding SMB on Solaris10 or it's just the only solution, but we're now checking for a solution
for accessing it the regular way.
I'll keep you informed
Thanks for you help!
