Wake from sleep to backup?

Thread needs solution

Can the program be set to wake the PC from sleep mode to do a backup? I have not been able to locate this function.
I now have it set to backup once a day at system start and it works fine. I would prefer not to have to shut down the PC each night.

Yes. Open the Backup Options, in the Schedule tab, click on advance options to see the wake computer from sleep option.

On my system, the line just above that line reads:

"Wake up the sleeping/hibernating computer"
(see attached screen shot)

I only have the other (3) choices, not that one? It is the latest build; 5634. Anyone have an idea on how to get this option to appear?

A setting within your Contol panel/power options controls this.
It is proably a sleep or hybrid sleep. check your power settings and see if the opton then appears.

No problem going to sleep, it just will not wake up to do a backup and the Wake from sleep check box is not there.

If you are attempting to modify the task that is set to system startup you will have to untick "Upon event" to be able to use the wake option.

Thank you, that added the check box.

It added the check box and I checked it, but it did not wake and backup last night. I had the same problem when I first installed the program and that is why I went Upon event box checked to backup at system start.

Can someone tell me how to get the PC to wake from sleep to backup OR the correct command to add to Task Scheduler to backup?

The scheduler can be flaky, especially if you are editing a saved task. If that is the case you should create a new task.

I schedule a task to wake the computer a couple of minutes after Acronis TI is scheduled to start, just in case.

Hello, Dan.
What operating system do you have?
It looks like this is a known issue on Windows 10.

That may work. Set it to backup on system start and use Task Scheduler to shut down the system and then restart the system a half hour later.

Windows 7 Home Premium. Tell me more or contact me. I would really like this program to do what it is designed to do.

I have the problem with waketimers on Windows 10. It disabled in power settings, but still wake up the PC. Will this issue solved in future release of Acronis True Home 2016?

K L & Dan,
Set the required settings as suggested by user Ken Rosenfield above.
https://kb.acronis.com/content/54530

Your Control panel/power options must be set to allow for wakeup timers,
and your Acronis Scheduler/advance options must be set so that
Acronis is allowed to wake the computer.

Also note, that if your target is a usb extternal or network storage, they may have additional settings which must be set to allow the tagets to be awake when needed.

This is not working on Windows 10. Wakeup timers is disallowed at power options, but still active.

The same issue was with TeamViewer - at the new release the wake timers of TV is disabled.

Upd. Oh, I've read the article inattentively.
I enable wake timers and option "Wake up..." appears. I unchecked the option at all backups and saved the settings. But the command powercfg /waketimers still shows the Acronis service wake timer.

Done and done backing up to SSD hard drive and still no worky.

What schedule have you set, or are going to create the backup manually via the "Back up now" option?

Daily at 4Am, wake from sleep, missed backup: run at system startup. Incremental with full every 5.

The only way I have found to consistently have a backup done is to set to do it at event/system startup.

Dan,

I do not wish to discourage you however in my own experience I have found that Windows Updates have made my 2 older Win 7 installs sleep/wake functions fail to work properly. I am uncertain which updates caused these issues but I can say that they have effectively broken sleep/wake functions on these 2 machines. I suspect an incompatibility with one or more Windows updates and older hardware.

Found a way to get auto backup from sleep to work. Scheduled Task each morning; C:\windows\system32\shutdown.exe /r with wake from sleep to run. TI set to backuo at system start.

I can't get my computer to wake either even though it lists the event:

Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10586]
(c) 2015 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>powercfg /waketimers
Timer set by [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2\schedul2.exe (AcrSch2Svc) expires at 2:14:00 AM on 1/23/2016.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

It use to work but now I think it hasn't worked since the upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.1. Backups start and run when I wake the computer from the keyboard. I'm running the current update of Acronis 2016. Suggestions?

Thanks,

Bill

Do you see the option to wake from sleep in the Acronis GUI?

My computer TI2016, W10 Pro x64 works ok.

This link from Ken may help.

Oh yes. This morning I made a change to the power settings in windows 10. I changed it from "Enable" to "Important wake timers only". (see attached image)  I made a short backup script and sleeped the computer. It woke up both times and did the backup. I will need to wait till tomorrow to see it the regular backup occured.

The windows shows a schedule but it says its to expire one minute before it's suppose to start. Strange wording...

C:\WINDOWS\system32>powercfg /waketimers

Timer set by [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2\schedul2.exe (AcrSch2Svc) expires at 2:14:00 AM on 1/23/2016.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

My 2:15am backup did not run again but started as soon as I woke the computer normally via pressing the shift or enter keys late morning. I went back and restored the Computer Power setting from "Important wake timers only" to "Enable". Once again using powercfg it shows that my wake command is to expire at 2:14am tomorrow morning one minute before my 2:15am scheduled backup is to start:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>powercfg /waketimers
Timer set by [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2\schedul2.exe (AcrSch2Svc) expires at 2:14:00 AM on 1/24/2016.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>

I really don't understand why this is happening.

Acronis 2016, build 6027

Windows 10, upgrade from Windows 8.1

Thanks, Bill

Update: SOLVED

My computer since the Windows 10 update was not waking up to do its scheduled backup. The solution has been found.

Windows 8.1 was very unfriendly for putting your computer to sleep. The solution for me was to build a short one line shortcut called Sleep which contained the following:

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0

I placed it on the taskbar where I could "one click" it to put the machine to sleep. Worked perfectly in Win 8.1.

I suspected that it might be the issue and decided to stop using it. I'm sleeping the machine now via the Start GUI so now True Image is waking up and doing its backup as it should.

I'd kind of like to return to using the shortcut but haven't found what the true command is when you click the Sleep button in the Start GUI. If anyone knows please pass it on...

Thanks, Bill
